Caustic Promises 200x Boost In Raytracing By 2010

Caustic Graphics, a small startup out of San Francisco, is promising exponentially faster raytracing as early as next year. Founded by a group of former Apple engineers, the new company is touting its CausticOne graphics accelerator card as the solution to the sluggish raytracing techniques currently available. For years, the rendering option of choice for the gaming industry has been rasterization. Raytracing is a wholly different approach, which holds promise for more realistic graphics. The trade off with raytracing is that it requires much more processing muscle than rasterization.

Intel has been one company behind raytracing, but its demos are completely reliant on the current CPU/GPU setup. The tech giant’s position on raytracing is that its CPUs can handle raytracing while also handling other general purpose duties.

More Efficient CPUs From Intel Coming This Year

With a recession negatively affecting sales numbers in every market, Intel is urging consumers to go out and buy new PCs. In order to spur such a buying frenzy, the processor giant is making some of its notebook offerings more powerful while making others much more affordable.

According to Intel marketing director Karen Regis, 37 percent of the installed PC base is over three years old, and 38 percent of that base is in the desktop category. Regis says this keeps a lot of PC users in the dark regarding high-quality media, networking, and security. Plus, many PC users who would like to go mobile with their hardware are currently tethered to a desk. In order to spur a jump in laptop sales, Intel plans on rolling out Montevina Plus, an update to the current Centrino 2 (Montevina) platform. The update will see Penryn processors pushed beyond the 3.0GHz mark, and have a new found emphasis on High Definition content.

12-Inch Macbook Air Teso: Mba Clone Is The Hiphone Of Laptops

HiPhone must be kicking itself for not thinking about this first: TESO gives you the MacBook Air TESO, an almost eact replica of Apple’s MacBook Air, only with better air vents at the bottom compared to MBA. Hopefully, the MB TESO doesn’t run Vista, because we know next to nothing except that this MBA clone boasts a 12.1-inch screen compared to the 13 inches of the Apple MBA and will probably be powered by an Atom processor with 250GB of storage. No pricing yet. Apparently, the thin TESO laptop was recently launched in China with much fanfare.

Sharkoon Rush Fireglider Gaming Mouse Comes With Weights, Flame Job

Not that weight-adjustable mice are new — in fact, we’ve been mostly ignoring them since 2006 — but Sharkoon is hoping that you’ll be intrigued enough by having a few slugs in your critter that you’ll go ahead and bite the proverbial bullet. The Rush FireGlider is decidedly not subtle, sporting a vivacious flame covered paint job along with a no-slip grip, a half dozen programmable buttons, maximum resolution of 3,600 DPI, Teflon feet for superior gliding and an obligatory internal tuning system to adjust its weight from 118 to 135 grams. Too bad the Yanks in attendance will have to fly quite aways to drop €25 ($32) in order to claim one.

A-Data’s Sata II SSD 300 Plus Promises Quicker Reads, Writes

It’s hard to say just how legitimate these claims are at the moment, but A-DATA seems pretty jazzed about its newest SSD. While not nearly as capacious as the outfit’s recently unveiled 512GB XPG SSD, the next-generation SATAII SSD 300 Plus supposedly increases performance of read speeds by up to 40 percent while boosting write speeds by around 60 percent when compared to a “regular SSD.” According to A-DATA, this here drive utilizes a special mobile SDRAM module to hit a sustained read rate of 250MB/sec and write rate of 160MB/sec, and all this high-flying performance comes to you in 32, 64, 128 and 256GB flavors. Pricing, however, remains a thick, convoluted mystery.
