Sony XBR8 Triluminos LED LCD HDTV – Review

The delivery guy just picked up the XBR8—Sony’s tri-color LED Backlit HDTV. I’m a bit sad because I’d never seen an LCD shine like that before. I only had it set up in my living room for a short while. A little HBO, some movies, not much gaming at all. But it would have been long enough to pick apart a TV by just watching it. And during that time Sony’s picture defied any major complaints. Standard definition TV looked colorful, clear and without too many artifacts, reminiscent of how good it did on ye old standard def CRTs, before flat panels started hamfisting the upscaling. On the high end, High definition content from a Blu-ray disc felt like pricks from hypodermic needles, 1920 x 1080 of them, filled with a solution of video joy suspended in photons, as well as some unknown meds that made my chest tighten and my eyes unable to blink. It was by far the best LCD I’d ever seen, and as David Katzmeier from CNet said when he reviewed it, one of the best sets ever, although not as fine of a picture as the now extinct Pioneer Kuro plasma sets.

N900 Outed In Proto Expose

Amazing. The Mobile-Review team out in Russia have had a prototype N900 for a while and because of the leaked information they have seen on it they have chosen to air some initial thoughts including device images and a ton of images about the OS. There’s a lot to analyse here. It’s a phone. It’s running Maemo 5. It’s looking like Nokia really is moving to Maemo as their high-end OS. I’m quite stunned that Maemo has come this far. Hats off to Nokia. I’m going to try and get myself down to Stuttgart for Nokia World now because clearly this is going to be on the agenda there in just a few weeks.

We’ve added all the specifications we could confirm from the article into a new N900 information page which we’ll be updating as new information comes in but for now, the best information is over at Mobile-Review. As usual there’s a lively conversation over at Internet Tablet Talk. Your immediate thoughts are welcome in the comments below.

CD/DVD Player That Blends Acoustic With Advanced Visual Effects

Blending the acoustic with advanced visual effects, designer Denis Belmas has developed an innovative CD/DVD player that not only sounds good but also looks good. Featuring a hexagon surface finished with black glossy plastic resembling a vinyl disk, the CD/ DVD player by the Ukrainian designer comes integrated with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) at the back side that illuminates to create an aura of light around the player. The music player hides two glass flaps within the case and presents simple controls, so you may enjoy your favorite tracks without any interruption. Apart from resting the player on the table or shelf, you may also mount it on the wall, which makes it ideal for the small apartments. It’s not too bad a pick for spacious living spaces either!

Kim Seulgi & Evan Yiwei Ma Create The Share TV

Designers Kim Seulgi & Evan Yiwei Ma have created a unique concept which will go a long way, if things go well. That is what is cool about great designs, as they would have good future prospects of being manufactured in real, and then the designers would be encouraged to create more such unique and exciting products.

This time around, Kim Seulgi & Evan Yiwei Ma have created the Share TV which looks like any other T but is made of bezalass OLED screens and thus you can separate the TV for individual viewing. The screen can be split in two and thus there is no opportunity to share and fight, though the TV is all about sharing.

Sharp JD-7C1CL/CW Cordless Phone

While the adoption of landlines are dwindling these days no thanks to dirt cheap voice plans for cellphones, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a place for a new product release where house phones are concerned. Sharp’s latest JD-7C1CL/CW cordless phone is different from the rest since it comes with a 7″ touchscreen LCD display can actually be used to access basic phone functions including voice mail, while displaying other features such as a clock, calendar, phonebook with images and even your collection of digital photos. The 800 x 600 resolution ought to be more than enough for most people, while 128MB of internal memory should serve this Sharp offering well. We would like to see future versions incorporate email support though – that’d make it a clear winner.

Kohjinsha's 11.6-Inch EX6 Convertible Tablet Says XP, Means Windows 7

With Windows 7 on the horizon, multi-touch support in tow, people are suddenly interested in tablets all over again; a form factor that didn’t quite revolutionize portable computing as envisioned by an enthusiastic Bill Gates showing that first prototype way back in 2001. And with an Apple event just weeks away (presumably), fanboys of both persuasions seem convinced that tablets are once more the future of mobile computing. Manufacturers are certainly on board. Case in point: Kohjinsha, that just announced its EX6 convertible tablet with 1366×768 pixels slathered across a 11.6-inch LED-backlit capacitive resistive touchscreen. Inside you’ll find a 1.6GHz Atom N270 and 945GSE chipset, up to 2GB of memory and 160GB of disk, 802.11n WiFi, gigabit Ethernet, a pair of front and back-facing cameras, 2600mAh battery, 2x USB, and slots for SDHC/microSDHC, ExpressCard 34 cards, and even DVDs. Unfortunately, it’ll be shipped with XP when it hits retail at the end of this month for ¥59,800 (about $635) — something we expect you’ll rectify on October 22nd. As to whether it’ll support multi-touch under Win7, well, anybody see the appropriate sticker?
