Sprint Introduces The 99-Cent Netbook

A $1 netbook sounds like a Third World fantasy. Ironically, such a netbook has become a reality in the US. Sprint and Best Buy have combined forces to sell the Compaq Mini 110c-1040DX Netbook for 99 cents. The only caveat being that interested persons will have to opt for a two-year service contract with Sprint Nextel, which costs $1,440 and offers 5GB of data.

The same netbook, which features a 1.60GHz Intel Atom processor, 10-inch screen and 160 HDD, is also being offered by AT&T and Verizon along with a two-year contract for $199. Its actual price is $389.

Manli M3 Netbook Unboxed

That Manli M3 netbook we saw at Computex 2009 rears it’s head again with an unboxing video from netbooknews.com at some lovely location in Taipei, Taiwan.

It’s your bog standard netbook but has a couple of unique features which might save it: A fingerprint scanner and ExpressCard slot. It also gets points for having a very thin screen bezel with a matte display which is a rarity these days. Upgradability is easy with one big access panel to get into the HDD, RAM, Wi-Fi and an empty PCI express slot. Not so excited about the poor keyboard layout and the smallest touchpad in the history of netbooks.

Professional photographers are a demanding bunch, and if they happen to have one of the latest (DSLR) cameras around then you’ll know they will crave for (at least) two things – more storage and more speed. Hearing their calls, Transcend toiled into the night for a few months (BEd: just an estimate) and have come up with the Extreme Plus 600X CompactFlash cards.

The new CF cards come in 8 and 16GB capacities, are complaint with the CompactFlash 4.0 standard and make use of Turbo MLC technology and a quad-channel mode UDMA 6 mode in order to deliver read and write speeds of up to 92 MB/s and 87 MB/s, respectively.
