Psystar to release a Mac netbook?

Psystar currently produce computers, the Open Computer and OpenPro, which are built to order and are primarily Mac clones. They’ve faced a legal battle with Apple but are still producing a number of Mac clones as well as other built to order computers with various options and the choice of pretty much any operating system on the machine.

Undeterred by Apple they’ve revealed to a MacRumors reader that they are working on a “mobile Mac” computer in development. It isn’t clear if this is mobile in a laptop sense or a netbook sense as Pystar currently have no laptops in their range but are planning to introduce them. The question posed however, was asking if they were going to be working on a netbook in the future, so the chances seem good. Many consumers and netbook fans are keen for Apple to produce a netbook, so if Pystar do produce a Mac netbook, there’s no doubt it’ll be very popular.

HP Mini 2140 Review

One of the best netbooks that we tested so far, HP 2133 Mini-Note , has got its successor in form of, eagerly awaited, HP Mini 2140. Beside display size (8.9 inch at older and 10.1inch on the new model) differences between HP 2133 and HP 2140 are minimal when it comes to external aesthetics. Chassis is 6mm longer and 1mm wider and ventilation grills are redesigned. For all those that are not familiar with our review of HP 2133 we will just say that HP 2133 has very good quality build and nice business look.

Aluminum chassis with structural reinforcements made of magnesium offer sense of the safety. Additional reliability feature are display hinges made also of magnesium. Keyboard was and remains one of the best parts of HP netbooks.

Dell XPS 16 gets extra glossy Crimson Red option

Dell took a slightly different tact with its new XPS 13 and XPS 16 laptops by offering them only in basic black (or Obsidian Black, to be exact), but it looks like the company is slowly returning to its more accommodating ways by adding a new "high gloss" Crimson Red option to the XPS 16. As you can see above, however, you'll have to shell out an extra fifty bucks for that added bit of eye candy, and it doesn't look like it's available on the smaller XPS 13 quite just yet, though it seems safe to bet that it will be sooner or later.

GeForce GTS 250 Roundup (ASUS, Gigabyte, Sparkle, EVGA)

It seems that everywhere we look these days someone is trying to save a few dollars when it comes to upgrading or building a new system. Over the past 6 months both Nvidia and ATI have released plenty of cards that will appeal to those of you who are on a budget but don’t want to sacrifice much in the way of performance. ATI cards like the HD 4830, HD 4850 and the new HD 4770 fit the bill while Nvidia has the 9800 GT, the GTS 250 and to a lesser extent, the 9600 GT. This particular roundup will look a bit closer at the GTS 250 with products from Gigabyte, ASUS Sparkle and EVGA. Granted, this isn’t a blockbuster roundup with a ton of cards but it will show you the tip of the very large iceberg that is the GTS 250 product range.

1GHz Radeon HD 4890 Graphics Cards On Their Way

Even before AMD officially announced the introduction of its latest graphics processing unit, the RV790-based Radeon HD 4890 was expected to be a great overclocker, providing computer and gaming enthusiasts with the means to increase their computer visual performance by tweaking the GPU. When released, AMD also trumped the overclocking capabilities of its latest Radeon card, which was said to be capable of delivering clock speeds of around 1GHz, a figure that is somewhat unprecedented in the world of desktop graphics cards.

Following the release of the 55nm RV790, there were reports that AMD felt there was no need for partners to release factory overclocked versions of the latest Radeon card, especially since the dual-GPU Radeon HD 4870 X2 was still a choice for overclocking enthusiasts and high-end gamers. However, it appears that a number of AMD partners have already rolled out HD 4890 cards that are equipped with a factory-overclocked GPU.

PhotoFast G-Monster 1.8" SSD IDE V2 - Available Now with 128 GB

Good news for anyone stuck with a 1.8” HDD in their laptop, like me with my Vaio G2 (My ASUS R1F is dead)… The folks at PhotoFast in Taiwan are offering their G-Monster in 1.8” size IDE with capacities ranging from 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB.

Specs are not as impressive as the PCI version, but expect a reading speed of 85MB/s and 50MB/s writing speed. Unfortunately as for today we don't have a price for you, and it like it won't be available in Japan before the end of the month.

PhotoFast has always been developing products from consumer’s point of view, considering a 128GB would be at least enough spaces for OS, applications and MP3s when building up a Laptop system. Especially developed for IBM laptop X40/X41, this is going to be a whole new savior to bring those back to life.

T-Mobile's Magic / Sapphire / myTouch / G2 getting 5 megapixel cam?

It's pretty unusual for a manufacturer to take a global model and swap out a component as significant as a camera for one carrier, but it looks like that might just happen with T-Mobile USA's myTouch -- or G2, or Magic, or Sapphire, or whatever the heck it ends up being called. Boy Genius Report's leaked picture of the back of the carrier-branded handset prominently says "5.0," and since it's safe to assume it's not packing a 5.0-liter V8, this is probably referring to sensor res. That would be a marked upgrade from the 3.2 megapixels launching on the Magic everywhere else -- and interestingly, this kinda falls in line with T-Mobile USA's seemingly active effort to launch high-megapixel devices across the lineup over the past several months. This is more solid evidence than a spec sheet -- since spec sheets have a tendency to be filled with fallacies and typos -- but we'll hold off on saying this is a lock until the phone launches.

Dell Spring catalogue reveals Mini 10v

In this month’s catalogue from Dell there’s several great saving offers on from the Mini 10 to the Inspiron 17. An interesting find on the very last page reveals an even cheaper Mini 10 model for $299. The new model denoted with a v, the Dell Inspiron Mini 10v will be released mid May for $100 less than the current Mini 10 model. Not much is cut back for the $100 either. The hard drive is reduced in size from 160GB to 120GB which is still adequate. The processor used has also been changed. The 10v will use the more traditional CPU of the Intel Atom N270 instead of the Z series Atom processor.

Canon - Digital IXUS 100 IS Review

To be ultra-slim in today's world is apparently much to be admired, whether it's women's figures or the latest compact digital camera. In a market that's overflowing with pocket sized cameras, Canon still believes that slimness is a good selling point, so its latest Digital IXUS is trumpeted as the thinnest yet.

Certainly its 87 x 54.5 x 18.4mm chic stainless steel body fits snugly in the palm of your hand, weighing a mere 115g. Released as a replacement for the IXUS 85 IS, the IXUS 100 IS is as much about style as features, with its smoothly curved edges rounding off a casing that's available in brushed metal silver, black, gold or red.
