Samsung Q1ex Reviewed: Lower Price, Lower Run-Time

My first reaction to Samsung keeping the Q1 UMPC series alive was a giant “meh!” I couldn’t understand why they’re trying to introduce a new model when for all intents and purposes the UMPC is dead. I do believe that as a concept it moved us forward and had much input to the current netbook craze, but that doesn’t merit a fourth go-around for the niche device.

LAPTOP Magazine just gave the Q1EX a review, and now I’m scratching my head even more. The price is down quite a bit over the Q1UP model: $750 as compared to around $1,200 when I bought mine. That’s great… but expected unless the hardware is beefed up. Doesn’t look like that’s the case with the CPU replacement nor the battery shrinkage.

One such notebook that has been out for a while is the Voodoo Envy 133. This baby is comparable to the Adamo in overall dimensions and HP (owners of the Voodoo line now) have packed a lot of juice in that small form. Dwight Silverman of The Houston Chronicle has gotten to play work with the Envy and has published a review of the notebook.

Philips Xenium X810

The Xenium X810 is Philips latest arrival in the cell phone arena and it’s quite different from what we’re used to seeing from this brand. This model comes equipped with a touchscreen to slurp up power like a little vampire.

Some features include: a 240 x 400 pixel TFT touchscreen display with 262K colors, Navigation, Quad-band GSM connectivity with EDGE, 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, 45MB internal memory, microSDHC memory card slot, and up to one month of stand-by time. We don’t know when this will arrive, but it will likely debut in China.

It looks nice, but why would they not make the screen larger and up the battery?

Asus Eeebox B208 With Dual Core Atom & Radeon HD 4350

Reports of new Asus EeeBox B208 that appeared on Asus’s website before shortly disappearing into nowhere.

The EeeBox PC will feature a dual core Intel Atom 330 and a 256MB Radeon HD 4350 which is a plus as it comes with a built in HDMI port.

Along with that, it, a 320GB hard disk, and also 4x USB2.0 ports.

No official price has been given yet but I am hoping it will cost just a slight more than the existing Eeebox B206
