Iomega DVR Expander Turns Pace Cable Boxes Into DVRs

Last summer Iomega unveiled a product providing what many DVR owners find themselves needing much sooner than they thought — more storage space. The Iomega DVR Extender is an external 500GB hard drive that connects to DVRs via eSATA.
Iomega announced today that users of Pace set-top cable boxes can now use the DVR Expander to add up to 300 hours of storage for standard def programs and up to 60 hours of HD content. The most interesting part of the announcement is that if users have Pace boxes that lack a hard drive, the DVR Expander will turn them into full featured DVRs.

The official word comes today that Samsung is going to produce a 12.1-inch notebook, the NC20. The NC20 is a larger cousin to the NC10 netbook from Samsung and this larger version will ship with a Via Nano processor.
VIA, who is likely quite happy with the Psion netbook trademark situation, has always referred to these small notebooks as “mini-notebooks” rather than recognize Intel’s “netbook” preference and that’s what VIA is calling the NC20. This new notebook from Samsung will use a 1.3 GHz VIA Nano processor and a 12.1-inch display that delivers 1280×800 resolution out of the box. The integrated VIA Chrome9 graphics set this apart from the Atom-based netbooks shipping today.

MWC brought us many things, from sleek see through mobiles, to those that incorporated 12 megapixels into a fully touch screen shell. But amongst the selection of high end devices there also existed those that catered to the slightly less techie market. I’m talking your Grandparents generation, who desire a phone that’s simply a phone, with large keys and high volume being prioritized over newfangled ideas such as WAP and 3G.
Doro have launched 5 handsets that pride themselves in their simplicity, as they feature large easy to read displays and extra large buttons. They’ve released their first ever clamshell phone, the jazzily titled PhoneEasy 410gsm.

Palm’s Treo Pro Hits Bell Mobility In Canada

We’re still waiting on a solid bit of subsidized US availability on Sprint, but Canada’s got things all figured out — how typical. Palm’s Treo Pro is doing the EV-DO Rev. A thing on Bell Mobility up there, going for $99.95 on a three-year contract — 1 and 2-year contracts are $0 and off contract is only $49, so we’ll likely be updating when things settle down. That sounds like a silly amount of time to be tied to Windows Mobile 6.1, but we’re temporal pessimists like that. Bell Mobility customers can pick up the phone as of today.

Kodak EasyShare M1093 IS Digital Camera Review

The Kodak M1093 IS sports 10-megapixel resolution that Kodak claims is enough for 30 x 40-inch prints. Well yes, it is, but with a few caveats as we’ll see. Other kit that this remarkably well-priced model has includes a sharp, Kodak Retinar Aspheric 35-105mm 3x optical zoom lens and, as the name suggests, image stabilisation.
Kodak’s Smart Capture allows the camera to select the shooting mode for the situation it’s presented utilising “intelligent” scene detection, capture control and image processing. The combination, in theory at least, providing the correct combination of frame rate, ISO, exposure control and focus set-up for a variety of situations, from portraits to landscapes.
This works quite well and got the correct mode most times, or at least one that provided a reasonable result but the downside here of course is the lack of manual control it offers. But then again this is what this camera is for: for snappers that want an uncomplicated, easy to use, camera that won’t break the bank.
