I-Mate 810-F, Centurion And Legionnaire/ Warrior. An Impressive Comeback

Among all the fancy touchscreen, HD, high megapixel phones being announced right and left at MWC 09 in Barcelona, there was one small company which stood out from the crowd. And not because of the fancier touchscreen UI, HD video or higher megapixel count in the camera. It’s because they took a different approach in designing their new phones, and made some really interesting products.
It’s a company named i-mate. And their first announced handset was 810F – a well specc’ed, rugged Windows Mobile phone. Except for the smallish – 2 mpx – camera – the 810-F specs (HSDPA, 2.5” QVGA touchscreen, full QWERTY keypad, Wi-Fi, GPS, Compas, etc;) looks quite good. But it’s story is not about specs, it’s about toughness.

Mwc09: Giga-Byte Gsmart S1200 Hands-On Review And Video Demo

Taiwanese Giga-byte Communications is another Windows Mobile smartphone manufacturer that came up with it’s own full touchscreen handset at MWC 2009 in Barcelona.
It’s called Giga-Byte GSmart S1200.
I had a chance to play a bit with this new handset, and I rather liked it.
Among many other full touchscreen handsets introduced in Barcelona, I can not say that there’s something to wow you in GSmart S1200. Nothing really stands out.
On the other hand S1200 is a well specc’ed and well designed Windows Mobile smartphone, with a very responsive 3.1” touchscreen display and it’s own custom, touch optimized UI called “Smart Zone”.

Dell Studio XPS 13 - 13.3In Notebook Review

Once upon a time Dell’s notebook PC range was pretty straightforward: Inspiron for the mainstream consumer, XPS for the enthusiast, Latitude for the business user and Precision for the specialists - easy. However, in the last year or so, Dell has strived to complicate matters, launching the Vostro brand for small businesses, the Studio range for “upmarket” consumers and now the Studio XPS range which is…some kind of amalgam between the those two brands one would assume. Clearly someone at Dell has discovered a large leveraging tool in their desk and has been up-selling synergies with abandon, the latest spawn of this activity being the Studio XPS 13.
Based on a 13.3in display, its variety of design cues indicate that the Studio XPS 13 (also known as the 1340) is clearly an attempt to create a Windows alternative to the much fabled and somewhat pricey Apple MacBook. Though it can’t boast anything like the inspired unibody enclosure, its chassis does attempt to create a similar look and feel through its unbroken lines, seamlessly integrated ports and the ever attractive presence of an edge-to-edge display cover. And, though the immediate visual impact isn’t quite so exhilarating, replete in its glossy black finish with silver accents the Studio XPS 13 strikes an attractive pose.

Sony Bravia KDL-40ZX1 40in LCD TV Review

Any hopes I might have had about starting this week gently, with a nice simple TV, were summarily dashed over the weekend as the technical difficulties I’d been having with Sony’s truly groundbreaking KDL-40ZX1 TV were sorted out. For now I no longer had any excuse for not wrestling with all of its fancy features at the earliest opportunity - i.e. today. Sigh.
Actually, to be honest, while reviewing the 40ZX1 has certainly been unusually time-consuming, the process hasn’t been completely without its pleasures. It’s certainly been fun, for instance, to see the look of wonderment on the faces of any friends, family and colleagues who happened to wander in while the TV was working. Not necessarily because of the set’s picture quality, but rather because the TV’s 40in frame sits on a body that’s for the most part just 9.9mm thick.
Yes, I really did say 9.9mm, not 9.9cm. Thanks to edge-based LED lighting technology (more on this later), the 40ZX1 is comfortably the thinnest large-screen TV the UK has ever seen. And the impact of its extreme slenderness really can’t be overstated, wowing as it does everyone from gadget hounds to my dear old 86-year-old gran.

LG Prada II (LG-KF900) Review

Building on the success of the first PRADA phone, LG and PRADA recently announced the second LG PRADA phone (model: LG-KF900) in Singapore that sports an elegant and stylish design and claims superb features and performance. The main difference between the new one and its older sibling is that the LG-KF900 has an additional full slider QWERTY keyboard.
Our review unit measures 104.5 x 54 x 16.75mm and weighs 130g which is slightly heavier, though sturdier than the first Prada phone.

Nvidia To Launch Gtx 280m And 260m At Cebit

It looks like NVIDIA is set to launch their new mobile GTX 260M and GTX 280M at CeBIT next month. It is also said that the GTS 160 will be debuted as well.
The two new chips should give notbooks a healthy performance increase. NVIDIA is claiming that the G92b chip will be up to 30% faster than ATI’s Mobility Radeon HD 4870.
Besides shrinking things down to 55nm, the new chips also brings 256-bit memory support and up to 128 stream units.

Tuniq Potency 650w Review

With the extremes having being recently reviewed here on XSReviews, from 1000w to 450W, today we have a PSU that is somewhere in the middle with a wattage of 650. The manufacturer Tuniq has a reputation for producing high quality units so let’s hope the Potency 650 is no different. Only one way to find out.
The front is very simple and basic. A black background gives rise to a product image and the product name – Potency. Alongside this there is the website and a couple of logos including the efficiency (80 plus). The packaging is exactly the same for both the 650W and 750W models with a small sticker differentiating between them in the appropriate box.

Noctua NH-U9B CPU Cooler Review

Ever since I met Chris Ram and started discussing CPU coolers with him, the name Noctua was soon to be added from his side of the conversation. Chris was sure to make sure I knew they were some of the quietest, most efficient coolers money could buy, in his opinion. He has tested and personally used some of Noctuas products before, but this is my first time looking at one of their products to gauging whether or not what Chris had told me about these CPU coolers was true.
Today Noctua has sent us the NH-U9B CPU cooler for testing along with a matching optional fan to allow for dual fan testing. The Noctua NH-U9B is a scaled down version of the NH-U12P that we reviewed some time ago. The major difference with these two coolers is that this is a 92mm fan cooled version for HTPC, or possibly even some SFF cases. This four heat-pipe cooler shows promise from what I have read in reviews of other products, as well as word of mouth from forum members and highly experienced people like Chris.

Gts240 Looks To Be Nothing More Than A 55nm G92

nVidia is at the rebranding table again, this time VR-Zone has the full details.
After the debacle over the GTS250 with HardOCP nVidia is still looking to push out more 55nm G92s with little more to them than a name change and a nice price increase.
This would seem to be the case with the GTS240, according to technical drawings that VRZone has obtained the new GTS 240 will be a 55nm G92 based 9800GT on a new PCB. nVidia seems to have improved the power usage but not much more has been changed.

P55 And P57 Will Not Have Sata 3 (6gbps)

It looks like the new P55 and P57 will not ship with SATA 3 support.
Despite the fact that AMD is planning one with SATA 3 support for Q1 2010, Intel will not make that feature available on tits next two chipsets.
SATA 3 can support up to 6Gbps (750MBps) while the older SATA 2 only supports up to 3Gbps (375MBps).
Intel is sure to have SATA 3 support soon but it looks like AMD will beat them to the punch.
