Toshiba TG01 Mobile Phone Review

Toshiba has announced its latest stab at taking on the mobile phone market with the TG01. But can the new touchscreen mobile phone that promises to “revolutionise the mobile entertainment world” really crack the market dominated by so many other players? We managed to get a brief hands on with the new phone.
Okay - when we say brief we mean it. We had a about 10 minutes with the phone in total while filming a walk-through for Megawhat, but that time did allow us to get all touchy feely with the interface and therefore share some of our experiences with you, our lovely readers.
So what do you get? Well virtually everything it seems. It’s a top of the range smartphone, so that means there is Wi-Fi, HSDPA, AGPS, a 3.2-megapixel camera on the back, and a microSD card slot around the side that’s hot swappable.

Intel i7 965 Processor & DX58SO “Smackover” Motherboard Review

Another evolutionary step is upon us as retailers continue stocking their shelves with Intel’s latest Core I7 Processor even with the award winning Core 2 series still found in very large numbers around retailers. Unless you’re living several hundred miles from civilization without any form of media, you have probably already heard about the processor and learned that it doesn’t out perform its older cousin when it comes to video games. Why, might you ask, would Intel do this? Well here’s your answer.

Vmedia Not Dead Yet, Wants To Bring Optical Media To Netbooks

The last time we heard from Vmedia, the company was on a quixotic journey to bring Minidisc-like optical video disks to cellphones in India — and while we haven’t heard anything on that front since, the company is back with plans to place its tiny 1GB disks inside netbooks, MIDs, and dedicated USB drives. If this just sounds like SanDisk’s futile SlotMusic initiative with weirder proprietary hardware and no installed base of readers, congratulations, you can identify terrible business models.

Skype 4 - PC Review

We’ve been fortunate enough to be using the beta of Skype 4 for many months, but now the application has gone public, is it worth rushing off to upgrade?
First of all your notice a large cosmetic change. The identity of Skype remains, with the neat gloss on the buttons, the blue hues and so on, but the application has transformed itself from its former self as instant messenger -like in appearance, to full-screen application.
You always could maximise the window in previous versions of Skype, but now it is clear that Skype wants to be used that way. Where previously you’d be left with a lot of empty space and a collection of tabs, now you’ll find much better use of screen space. There is also a compact view if you prefer things in a smaller package, more like an IM application.

HTC Touch 3G Smartphone Review

HTC’s Touch franchise seems to be expanding at a rate only matched by Subways. The Touch 3G brings the total number of handsets in its current range to nine. So what does the 3G add to the fold? No stars for guessing that it supports HSDPA, but there’s also onboard GPS and perhaps most importantly a fairly affordable price tag, as the 3G sits neatly between the cheapo Touch Viva and the wallet bashing Touch HD.

Asus P6T Deluxe Palm OC Edition Reviewed

Hard on the heels of the Core i7 Asus Rampage II Extreme motherboard we’ve got the Asus P6T Deluxe Palm OC Edition. The model name is a bit of a mouthful but in essence the P6T Deluxe is a conventional Intel X58 chipset design with six memory DDR3 slots and support for CrossFire and SLI. The Palm OC Edition part of the name refers to the external LCD Palm OC device that allows you to monitor the system and to overclock without entering the BIOS.

Western Digital My Book Mac Edition Hard Drive Review

It sounds dull, but if you haven’t already, you need to think of a backup plan for your pictures, video, documents and everything else you’ve got crammed on to your computer. Western Digital thinks it’s got Mac users covered with the My Book Mac. But has it? We check out the new hard drive.
The hard drive is called My Book for a very good reason: it looks like a book. The matt black casing wraps around the drive inside like a cover of a book, while the silver venting top, bottom and rear is designed to look like the pages. Completing the look, the indicator light is on the front as if it were the title. The design is very clever, very minimal and very smart. It’s not your average grey/beige box you need to hide.

Rumor Mill: Radeon HD 5870X2 Listed for 677 EUR

Early last month, NVIDIA launched its highest-performance graphics cards to date, the 55nm-based GTX 285 and GTX 295, coming as a response to AMD’s dual-GPU HD 4870 X2. Soon after the release of NVIDIA’s latest GeForce cards, speculations emerged on the possibility of an upcoming Radeon graphics card, as a response to its latest offering. On that note, it now appears that the rumor mill keeps on turning and specifications of an alleged Radeon HD 5870 X2 have just been leaked on the Internet.
According to a recent news article on Guru of 3D, a “respectable” Dutch retailer has leaked the details on AMD’s Radeon HD5870X2, a card that appears to be a direct response to NVIDIA’s dual-GPU GTX 295. The card was soon pulled down from the site, but not before its specifications were grabbed by a user. According to the news article on Guru of 3D, the card is going to be featured with a core clock of 800MHz, and a memory frequency of 4800MHz.

DFI LANParty UT X58-T3eH8 Core i7 Motherboard Review

When we first met DFI, the company was simply producing a series of OEM motherboards with no bells and whistles, no fancy names and no extra accessories. Their boards were heavily based around reference designs and getting one into the labs simply meant reviewing another baseline board.
Over the past 5 years, however, DFI has made some rather interesting purchases such as ex-ABIT engineers to help improve a lot of their motherboards and without a doubt, the team from ABIT that brought us some impressive boards helped DFI come into the retail channel with their own hardcore motherboards; these make up the LANParty series.

First Impressions With The Eee Pc 1000he And Its Delectable Keyboard

We were pleased to see Asus responding to its critics by unveiling the new 1000HE at CES, offering a far more pleasant keyboard that finally moved the right shift key just a bit to the left. With the new model about to ship, Laptop Magazine has been able to stack one up against an older 1000 model and play a little game of "One of These Things" to spot the differences between the two.

NVIDIA Ion Platform Benchmark Preview

At the Consumer Electronics Show last week, NVIDIA was showing off a new reference platform that they were calling the world's smallest fully capable visual computer. Features like DirectX 10 graphics, NVIDIA CUDA technology, and HD video are now possible in a 3" x 4" motherboard. This PC is so small that it fits in the palm of your hand with room left to spare. The system is made possible thanks to Intel's 1.6GHz Atom 330 processor and NVIDIA's GeForce 9400M core logic MCP with 16 integrated GeForce graphics cores. Together this chipset and processor make up the NVIDIA Ion Platforms, which is one of the most interesting PC designs that we have seen in years.
