Transcend Introduces 192GB High-Speed 2.5″ Sata II SSD

Transcend Information releases its all-new 192GB high speed 2.5-inch Solid State Drive (SSD). This SSD is made of reliable NAND flash memory that contains no moving parts. Featuring a new controller, Transcend’s MLC-equipped 192GB SSD far outpaces standard 2.5″ hard drives, delivering read/write speeds of up to 150MB / 90MB per second to guarantee fast throughput regardless of file size. With these high-speed transfer rates and virtually non-existent (0.2ms) latency, an SSD-equipped computer boots-up faster, games run more smoothly, and overall system responsiveness is improved. Moreover, this SSD’s industry-standard SATA II interface and 2.5″ form factor allow easy and straightforward user installation in most notebook computers and mainstream PCs just like regular hard drives.

Dell - SP2309W Review

At the time of writing, the SP2309W, a full 1080p 23-inch widescreen TFT display, was selling for just north of £220. Factor in that it includes a built-in webcam and has a native resolution of 2048 x 1152 pixels, and it soon emerges as a poster child for just how price-attractive quality displays have become.
For a quality display it most certainly is. It’s bright, for starters, boasting figures of 300cd/m2 brightness and an 80,000:1 contrast ratio. We swapped out a 24-inch Dell, no slack performer in its own right, and the clarity and luminance of the new screen were instantly obvious.

Review: Gilty Couture 14k Gold iPhone Bezel

Don’t call it a case. That word implies durable protection, which this Gilty Couture product is not. A $125 buys you a gold-plated bezel that’s sure to invoke more unneeded iPhone safety paranoia. Now, not only do you have to anally obsess ‘bout the phone’s glossy plastic back and the delicate touchscreen, but now this damn bezel. Is that how you wanna live? Really?

Apple iMac In Short Supply, Upgrade Imminent

If you believe the rumour mill, the iMac being in short supply means Apple is clearing its retail channels and preparing to upgrade the all-in-one desktop. It’s certainly overdue, with all Mac portables now packing Nvidia’s newest chips, and DisplayPort connectors. Posters at the MacRumors forums are reporting Apple resellers in short supply of the iMac. What’s more, 20 inch iMacs in particular have suddenly become hard to track down, say the posters.
However, a quick check on Apple’s UK store shows all but the top spec 24 inch iMac available for shipping within 24 hours. We’ve been expecting an iMac refresh ever since the new Nvidia chips popped up inside Apple’s MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops. Will Apple add them to the iMac? Definitely. The only question, is when?

ASUS N10JC: The Netbook Goes Corporate

Just over a year ago, ASUS made some big waves in the mobile computing world with the launch of the Eee PC. The idea was to make an ultra small laptop that could provide “enough” computing power for a very low price — something like an oversized PDA but with a full OS and a standard user interface. The concept seems simple and obvious in retrospect, and the Eee PC has created an entirely new category of laptop: the netbook. Competition in this market that ASUS spawned has become fierce, with Dell, HP, Acer, and others now shipping netbook PCs ranging in size from the same 7″ chassis as the original Eee PC up to 10″ models.

Alphacool NexXxoS XP Core i7 Water Block Review

If you are an avid Guru3D.com reader that some of you might remember that yours truly personally is somewhat fond of water-cooling. Here in my office there are a lot of PCs. Each and every pc has some sort of water-cooling applied to it. And that’s not because I just like to play with water (hey, any kid does), moreover it’s due to the fact that I hate the noise of loud aircoolers.

Review: Asus P6T Deluxe

Asus's P6T Deluxe isn’t the most over-the-top Core i7 board we’ve tested, but it certainly has a leg up on Intel’s bare-bones DX58SO. For one thing, it finally brings us graphics reunification by supporting both two-card SLI and CrossFire X configurations.
And instead of the gimpy four-slot DIMM setup of Intel’s DX58SO, the P6T Deluxe features six DDR3 DIMM slots. The board, of course, supports all Core i7 CPUs. Since Intel is the sole chipset provider for X58 and the memory controller is in the CPU itself, most performance differences will be the result of BIOS tweaks each manufacturer implements. We found Asus’s BIOS to be far friendlier than the Intel board’s, which at first glance seems designed for engineers. Truth be told, though, the Asus BIOS can be just as daunting if you tread into the Advanced section.

Intel Core i7 920 Undergoes C-0 to D-0 Stepping Change

Intel issues a Product Change Notice (PCN) today detailing the stepping conversion of the Core i7 920 processors from the current C-0 to D-0. So far, only the i7 920 processors will undergo the stepping change while i7 940 and 965 remain unchanged.
The main reason for the change is not revealed but one of the cosmetic change stated is the ink swatch where the IHS covered the marked serial number partially. Intel states that the electrical, mechanical and thermal specifications remain within the current specifications. Enthusiasts will definitely be eager to see if the new stepping improves overclockability.

MSI X58 Platinum Reviewed

The MSI X58 Platinum is an unusual motherboard as it is, in essence, a budget X58 motherboard for Core i7, which up until now has been something of an oxymoron. Of course the word ‘budget’ is a relative term and you’ll still be forking out over £200 for this board but, considering many X58 alternatives are priced well above £300, it’s a relative bargain.
At first glance the X58 Platinum looks more like a high end Core 2 motherboard. What gives the game away, though, is the six DDR3 slots that are a new feature to emerge thanks to Core i7’s triple channel memory.
Two PCI Express 2.0 slots are present but they only support CrossFire and not SLI, which is probably the single biggest reason this board costs less than most. If you do have a yearning for, say, dual nVidia GTX 260 graphics you’ll need to consider the MSI Eclipse SLI with its triple graphics slots and full support for CrossFire and SLI. MSI has gone the whole hog with the Eclipse+ which has four graphics slots and an nForce 200 PCI Express chip but we gather that particular model might not make it to the UK. There are of course other options from alternative manufacturers, including the Asus Rampage II Extreme.
