Secrets Of The Vaio P

Engadget Chinese took the time to interview the Vaio P’s designer, Takuma Tomoaki, who sheds light on secrets of the super-widescreen LCD and never before seen accessories.
Tomoaki said the entire design of the Vaio P was based around the keyboard, which is roughly 90% the size of the VAIO TT keyboard. Tomoaki called this the smallest usable keyboard possible, and the rest of the shape was based around this, including the Vaio P’s 120mm depth.

Dell Puts Inspiron 15 Online With New Options

Dell today quickly acted on an earlier promise by launching its in-house version of the Inspiron 15. Unlike the fixed configuration shipping through Best Buy, Dell’s own model can be optioned up to a modern 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo along with choices for a 1.3-megapixel webcam, 802.11n Wi-Fi, a Blu-ray combo drive and Bluetooth. Buyers can also pick from blue and red lids in addition to Best Buy’s simple black.
Prices for Dell’s Inspirons start at $699 with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo on an 800MHz bus, 3GB of memory, a 250GB hard drive and a low-capacity, 4-cell battery. Shifting up to an $899 model (discounted to $799) gives a 2.2GHz chip on the same bus, a larger 320GB drive and a 6-cell battery, while the $1,164 flagship (dropped to $999) supplies a newer chip on a 1,066MHz bus, 4GB of memory and a 9-cell battery. Most models ship at the end of January.

Biostar TPower N750 nForce 750a Motherboard Review

The ongoing competition between AMD, Intel and NVIDIA has become remarkably similar to a bad soap opera in the past few years. Up until recently there were actually four companies vying for your system-building dollars, then Crossfire and SLI were introduced, and the entire affair went to pieces.

More Cores Not Always Better

For a long time, both Intel and AMD relied on ever increasing clockspeeds for each new processor release. That still remains the case today, but to a much lesser degree. Case in point - Intel’s long retired Northwood line topped out at 3.4GHz, or 200MHz faster than the zippiest Core i7 processor currently on the market.
The future of chip design has shifted to where multiple cores is now main factor, supported by larger cache, on die memory controllers, expanded instruction sets, and other secondary concerns. That’s all well and good that AMD and Intel are on the same page, which puts the onus on software developers to catch up, but at least one group of researchers believes we’re headed for an unpleasant surprise.

More Price Cuts For Core 2 Quads Coming

Despite being a decent sized step in the right direction for AMD with its Phenom II CPU lineup, it still struggles to compete with the likes of Intel’s good old Core 2 range which has now been around for several years. A further swipe from Intel is about to come in the form of some big price drops across its Core 2 Quad lineup of processors next Monday.

Cooler Master Black Label – Limited Edition Cosmos Chassis

1 in 500; take a look at it for a moment. Few concepts are able to draw such an emotional response like exclusivity. In our mass produced, stamped steel world, many go to extremes to show their individualism with custom cars, boats, bikes and I am pretty sure that on more than one occasion a few unique mods have made their way to the TweakTown News section as well. There is a fine line between truly unique and unique to you. Not to belittle those that put their blood, sweat and tears into modding mass produced products, but owning a true limited edition from the factory can have a huge impact on the ego.

Ces 2009: Dragon Case From Lian Li

During this CES Lian Li showed a case inspired by the new AMD Dragon platform. This case is made of red anodized aluminum featuring seven slots for expansion cards (using a high-quality aluminum mechanism to hold daughter boards; slots covers are meshed in order to improve airflow inside the case), a hard disk drive cage supporting up to three hard disks (this cage takes three of the nine 5 ¼” bays from this case) and a cable organizer. As you can see this case has no external 3 ½” bay. As for cooling, this case has a 120-mm front fan (to cool down the hard disk drive cage), a 120-mm rear fan and two 120-mm top fans. On this case the power supply is installed on its bottom part. Lian Li didn’t say when and for how much this unit will reach the market.

THX Teams With Radiient For Wireless Surround Sound

The fine folks at THX have taken note of the current home theater landscape and deemed it sub-par when it comes to surround sound. That may or may not be true, but I’d like to think someone at THX thought that at some point. Developed in conjunction with Radiient, the THX Roomcaster system taps ultra-wideband wireless technology to unshackle your surround system from its wired overlords. The technology can also be embedded into AV receivers, game consoles, headphones and anything that sends and receives content.
