Benq’s announcement of the S6, in conjunction with Taiwanese carrier FarEasTone, actually represents a re-lanuch of the S6, which was originally released last November with the Red Flag Midinux Linux operating system. Linux apparently did little to help sales of the device, one of the first Atom-based MIDs, so Benq is now launching it anew with Windows XP.
According to Benq and FarEasTone, the S6 is the first MID in Taiwan to be equipped with Windows XP Home Edition and VoIP software (the latter, known as “FarEasTone 070,” is pictured onscreen below). The device also includes a HSDPA cellular modem and is offered with unlimited wireless Internet access, according to the companies.
