Asus Eee Top All-In-One PC Review

Ever since launching the first Atom-powered netbook, Asus' Eee brand has led the way in all manner of other Atom-based fields - if rumours are to be believed we will soon be seeing Eee-branded keyboards, phones, and even mirrors. For now, though, we're looking at a humble all-in-one touchscreen PC, the Asus Eee Top. Although we've already reviewed one of its competitors' machines, Shuttle's XVision X50, the Eee Top was actually the first of the Atom-powered all-in-one PCs to hit the market so it will be interesting to see how it holds up.

We have to admit the Eee Top didn't particularly excite us in the looks department. Sure, it might have some applications in the classroom but for the most part we see it being used as a second PC in the kitchen or living room, in which case the styling is a little bit too twee. Also, the fake plastic speaker grill just screams cheap.

Nvidia’s Tegra Set To Change The Face Of MID With 12 HD Models

A dual-core ARM CPU powers the heart of Nvidia’s latest Tegra integrated System-on-Chip (SoC) platform, which also provides always-on Internet access and hardware accelerated support for HD video in a MID form factor. There are currently over 20 Tegra-based products under development, many of which will be arriving later this year.

Nvidia claims its Tegra SoC provides 5x the battery life of current netbooks, some of which today offer up to 8hrs of use, meaning Tegra is a device capable of running up to 40hrs nonstop. Tegra-based systems (netbooks, tablets and MIDs) are expected to cost around $199 when they reach consumers later this year, and could even be as low as $99 through subsidized mobile operator plans, such as those for the iPhone with a two-year contract commitment.

AVADirect Offering Laptops With Core i7 CPU, 3 Hard Drives

And so it begins. AVADirect announced the upcoming availability of its Clevo D900F laptop, and what makes this special is it’s the first one to incorporate Intel’s Core i7 processor, the company claims. “By using a desktop Core i7 processor, the notebook is able to enjoy all the benefits that accompany this hardware platform,” AVADirect said in a statement. “Some of the benefits include triple-channel memory, a first ever in a notebook design.”

Everything about the Clevo D900F screams desktop replacement, and does so in a big way. The tri-channel memory (up to 12GB of it) comes clocked at 1333MHz “with 1600MHz on the horizon.” And if a Core i7 wasn’t enough, AVADirect also crams Nvidia’s GTX 280M graphics into the mix.
