Cool Concept - Zip-Up Headphones

As any iPod owner can attest, earbud-style headphones are compact, discreet, and notoriously tangle-prone. Which is why this clever concept makes perfect sense.

By attaching a run-of-the-mill zipper to a
pair of equally run-of-the-mill earbuds, designer Ji Woong has created genius Zipper Headphones that can be zipped up when not in use, thereby preventing the dreaded headphone tangle.

Here's hoping this zippy little prototype makes it to production.

Toshiba Regza 42RV635D 42in LCD TV Review

If there's one trend that stands out above all others in the TV world right now, it's eco-friendliness. So it's no great surprise to find Toshiba joining the green fray with the 42RV635D: a 42in LCD TV that carries a special 'Eco-Panel' designed to run at a lower wattage than your typical LCD panels. Which is all well and good, of course, so long as the set's bid to save the planet doesn't end up spoiling its picture quality!

The home for the new Eco panel is similar to the decently attractive design found on Toshiba's cheaper 37AV635D, reviewed last week. Which is to say that a pleasantly slender bezel is finished in a very high gloss black, with a rather fancy illuminated Toshiba logo standing out boldly along the bottom edge.

MSI's X-Slim X340 now shipping in US for $899.99

It's hard to say if our harmless threats influenced the MSRP here, but either way, we'll take it. MSI has finally (finally!) come clean with a set price on its succulent X-Slim X340, and while we heard through the grapevine awhile back that it would ship here for under a grand, we definitely had our doubts. Starting today, eager consumers can order one for the low, low price of $899.99, which buys you an Intel ULV SU3500 processor, Vista Home Premium, a 13.4-inch 1,366 x 768 resolution display, GMA 4500MHD graphics and 2GB of DDR2 RAM. There's also a 320GB hard drive, gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, 4-cell battery (an 8-cell is optional), 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, twin USB 2.0 sockets, VGA / HDMI outputs and an SD / MMC card reader. The 0.78-inches thick machine is shipping today in the US of A from a bevy of e-tailers, and you can peek the full release just after the break.

Update: Looks like some e-tailers even have it at $799. Nice!

ASUS' potent G51 gaming laptop headed for Computex

ASUS already struck a chord with portable gamers when it introduced the imposing W90, and now it's looking to do the same with LAN party goers who need something just a wee bit less gargantuan. Details are light on the forthcoming G51, but we do know that it'll arrive in a few form factors (15.6- and 16-inch models) and will give buyers the choice between a Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo processor. There's also room for up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM as well as a 1GB GeForce GTX 260M graphics card; furthermore, you'll find an optional Blu-ray drive, 2 megapixel camera, dual 500GB hard drives and a white glossy shell. Mum's the word on pricing, but we expect to hear more on this July-bound beauty at Computex next month.

Sony Adds 2.0GHz Atom, Windows XP to P-Series

Seemingly conceding to the slight criticism its had about the use of Vista on its Vaio P-Series, Sony has announced that it will be adding both a 2.0GHz Atom CPU and 256GB SSD option in addition to offering a system with Windows XP pre-installed.

Clearly it's the XP option that most will be interested in because as great as Atom is at drawing not much power, it also doesn't provide much making Vista on the P-series sluggish at best. Given that the P-series falls outside of Microsoft's requirements for discounted, netbook-flavour XP Sony will presumably be charging for a full license. A worthwhile premium for any buyer wanting to use the not-a-netbook, it has to be said.
