Acard ANS-9010 RAMdisk vs OCZ Vertex 30Gb SSD - Shootout

Those looking for large storage are swimming in a pool of choice between 1~2000Gb hard drives at very competitive prices. If high performance is your goal there’s still plenty of choice but prices varies a lot.

When my colleague reviewer Massman finished his review of the ACARD ANS-9010 ram disk device he recorded some pretty amazing benchmark numbers 300-350Mb/s read speeds consistently and IO performance 4~5x as fast as a single OCZ Core SSD.

While the benchmark numbers were pretty impressive he was unable to do a side-by-side comparison of any real-world testing due to time constraints and resources. When he noticed my VGA test station he had found the perfect playground for this new expensive toy.

Toshiba Satellite U400-189 - 13.3in Notebook Review

It's not generally good form to start a review with a complaint, but if an example of the excesses of glossy black plastic was ever needed then Toshiba's current range of consumer notebooks would be the perfect fit. We thought Samsung was keen on the stuff, but Toshiba just takes the biscuit. A glossy lid we can deal with, likewise a glossy screen, and we can even tolerate glossy interiors, such as those found on the Samsung Q310, within reason, but glossy keyboards? It's just a step too far.

Happily, while we have some reservations with Toshiba's choice of materials, the U400-189 highlights that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover alone. A 13.3in machine, the U400 is the portable all-rounder of Toshiba's range, matching Core 2 Duo processors and decent feature sets with a 2kg chassis that can plausibly be carried around without breaking your back.

Android-based Alpha 680 netbook spotted in the wild

Still think an Android-based netbook is in your future? What you see above is the first legitimate in the wild shot of Skytone's Alpha 680, and at a glance, we're marginally excited about the sizable trackpad and roomy keyboard. Azza Solano 1000 Gaming Case Review

It's not often that a previously unheard-of company comes along and launches such a wide product line targeted specifically at a certain niche group of computer enthusiasts. But that is just the scenario that we have today with relative new-comer Azza. While some might say that the PC case and power supply market is already saturated with more than enough choices, sometimes a fresh look is exactly what is needed to jump-start a whole new direction in product development.

The Azza Solano 1000 gaming case is classified as a full tower steel enclosure with particular attention paid to good ventilation and a customizable layout. With dimensions of roughly 21½" x 8" x 20", the Solano might be better described as an oversized mid-tower rather than a full, with all ten 5¼" bays externally accessible.

Leadtek GTX275 Review

With the recent introduction of the ATI HD 4890, Nvidia needed something to directly compete with this card. Their answer was the GTX275, and today we have the Leadtek version of this card. Essentialy all Nvidia partners cards are the same, with the exception of the top sticker, so whats different about the Leadtek version? For one Leadtek does not officialy opperate in North America, which means it will be hard to get your hands on one of these cards without importing it from another country if you live in North America. That makes this primarily a review for our European friends, but if you want to see the GTX275 go head to head with the HD 4890 might as well read on!

Dell Mini 10v on Sale

If you wanted to know when the $299 Dell Mini 10v would be available to buy in the UK and for how much, the answer has arrived. The netbook is up for order on Dell's site right now starting from £199.

While undeniably attractive prices for a 10in netbook that entry level system isn't the best specced of laptops ever. A 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 isn't particularly disappointing but a mere 8GB of flash memory capacity and Ubuntu Linux is likely to put off many tempted by the price.
