Sony OLED Walkman impressions

Considering that we're holding a Japanese unit in our hands, our impressions of Sony's OLED Walkman will be somewhat limited. That said, we figured it prudent to pass along our initial judgments until the US model shows up sometime between tomorrow and next century. After giving the flashy PMP a photo shoot yesterday, we spent the rest of the day (and night, we won't even front) toying with Sony's most hyped Walkman in quite some time. Eager to hear just how fantastic / horrible this critter is? Follow us past the break for our two pennies.

Design and feel
What can we say? The OLED Walkman (formally known as the NW-X1050 in Japan) looks and feels incredible. The build quality is top notch, and it really hits the sweet spot between being sturdy and not too heavy. There's no mistaking that this is a serious piece of kit when picking it up, and even the buttons are rock solid.

LG - Cookie KP500 Review

LG certainly has a knack for bizarre names when it comes to mobile phones. We don't know why the KP500 is also called the Cookie, and can't begin to hazard a guess. But maybe that's not the point.

The Cookie is LG's attempt to bring a touchscreen mobile phone to the mass market. In that respect the Cookie is everywhere at fairly good prices on contract and for around £100 on Pay As You Go tariffs. If your operator of choice is Orange in the UK then you can choose a slight variant, the KP501, in either pink or silver and with slightly smaller front buttons than the original KP500 version.

T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 Review

T-Mobile's Sidekicks have been cult favorites stretching all the way back to the original grayscale model -- a device with a design only a mother could love, may we add -- when it launched nearly seven years ago. Though the unusual form factor with the addictive spring-loaded pivoting swivel has largely prevented it from attracting a mainstream audience, the countless teens and twenty-somethings who've latched on to the Hiptop ecosystem have cited many of the same reasons for loving it since day one: an easy, foolproof UI, push email, high-quality customizability, decent web browsing capabilities, and a stellar messaging-optimized layout (remember that QWERTY was little more than a twinkle in most manufacturers' eyes back in 2002).

Samsung EcoFit SyncMaster P2370 Review

There's one word to describe Samsung's latest Touch of Colour (ToC) monitor: wow. Ever since its introduction in Samsung's television range we've been fans of the ToC design, but its first implementation on a monitor, the rose-tinted T200, left us distinctly less impressed. However, Samsung's new EcoFit SyncMaster P2370 more than makes up for its predecessors.

After a short hiatus, the 23in form factor appears to be making a comeback. For those avid readers who might be remembering the recent announcement of Samsung's QWXGA (2,048 x 1,152) 23in monitor, we're sorry but this isn't it; the P2370 sports a 16:9 panel with a Full HD resolution of 'only' 1,920 x 1,080. But, quite aside from this being plenty for many users, this monitor is as much about the chassis as the panel it holds.

MSI Launches GX623 & GX633 Gaming Notebooks

MSI has updated its gaming laptop series with two new models, the GX623 and GX633 for Intel and AMD CPU fans respectively.

Both laptops sport similarly 15.4in chassis, with the components inside each different. Those equate to the GX623's Intel core 2 Duo CPU and AMD ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 graphics and the GX633's AMD Turion X2 CPU and nVidia GeForce GT 130M graphics.

Otherwise both systems pack up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, can be fitted with Blu-ray drives and offer up to 500GB of hard drive capacity. Gigabit Ethernet, Draft-N Wi-Fi and an array of USB ports and an eSATA connector should keep the GX623 and GX633 sufficiently connected.

Sony GPS-CS3K your Geotagging Best friend... Mini-Review

Wolfgang.H, the Head behind Akihabara News future CMS, was kind enough to give some of his time here in Japan to write for us a little review of Sony latest portable GPS solely made to be used for anyone willing to geotag their pictures.

The Sony GPS-CS3K GPS tracker has got a tiny display which can operate in three modes: displaying the current coordinates in big letters, displaying the exact coordinates (not rounded values) in small letters or the current date/time. It might take some minutes to complete the initial positioning after the first boot after not using the device for some time.
