BlackBerry Curve 8520 (Gemini) in glorious live pics

BlackBerry Curve 8520, one of RIM’s unannounced smartphones, has just appeared in several live photos. And, surprisingly, it doesn’t have a traditional trackball.

Instead, the Canadian manufacturer has opted for a flat and square-ish optical trackball that looks similar to a Nokia nav-pad, so it’s definitely a novelty for BlackBerry smartphones.

Codenamed BlackBerry Gemini (yes, this is the Gemini, not the 8325), the new handset lacks 3G connectivity – like all the other GSM Curves currently available.

Patriot Launches 64/128/256GB Fusion SSD Drives

It has been quite some time since we've heard of any new wares coming from Patriot Memory, but today the outfit is joining the quickly growing solid state drive market with a trio of devices. The company is debuting its Fusion SSD Series, a name that likely rings a bell for those familiar with the NAND Flash industry.

"By the addition of the DRAM cache, the Fusion greatly increases the random and sequential read and write transfer rates," according to Meng J. Choo, Patriot's Flash Product Manager. He goes on to say, "The DRAM acts as a buffer and increases the reliability, and lessens the possibility for 'bottlenecks' within the data transfers."

Eee PC S101H Detailed Review

Kamal of Gadgetmix got his hands on the classy netbook Eee PC S101H. I guess, you know by now what that H stands for, if not well it simply means that this version of the ultra-slim Eee PC has a HDD for storage instead of the SSD of its brother the Eee PC S101.

According to Kamal’s review, the Eee PC S101H is a sexy Eee PC taunting some luxurious design on some of its parts including some crystals on its hinges, and a glowing keyboard keys. Incidentally, talking about keyboard, the Eee PC S101H’s keyboard suffer the same problem as the Eee PC 1000H - that is the misplacement of the right shift key. And from the looks of it, it borrows the same keyboard desing as the 1000H - meaning it’s not the chicket-style keyboard similar to the 1000HE.

Thermaltake ElementS Chassis Review

As you can imagine being in the review business we have lots of machines sitting around. Computers have to have chassis and we have lots of those around as well. More and more we look at the test rack and it struck us that a large portion of the chassis are of Thermaltake manufacture. We can have any chassis made and predominantly our rack is filled with Thermaltake chassis.

After thinking about it for a couple of days we decided there were a few factors in the test rack being predominantly Thermaltake. Solid steel chassis are more durable, TT chassis always seem to have good airflow, lots of Full tower chassis designs, they allow the machines to run quiet, and they look good.

iRiver P7 8GB Review

Once again, I'm beginning to wonder whether there's something in iRiver's water. While most of the smaller PMP manufacturers attack Apple's domination of the market through a combination of better audio quality, video playback, file format support and value, iRiver's recent PMPs have seen it poking at the Cupertino giant's strongest area: style.

Last year's Spinn was a particularly innovative effort, positioned somewhere between the iPod nano and IPod touch, combining slick, stripped-back looks with a cool Flash-based interface and a mix of touchscreen and click-wheel controls. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was easily one of the most attractive players I've seen in the last year.

Cincinnati Bell lands Nokia's XpressMusic 5800: $149.99

Good one, Cincinnati Bell -- you totally got us. Oh, wait. This isn't a joke? For the second time in as many months, the aforesaid carrier has somehow managed to land a white-hot Nokia handset before any other operator in America. This go 'round, the company is becoming the first in the US to offer a subsidized version of Nokia's polarizing XpressMusic 5800, bringing it to customers in the Ohio region for $149.99. Those looking to do without any strings can procure one for $349.99 (which is still $50 less than what Nokia's asking), but it's the bragging rights here that make it all worthwhile. So, how long before a real carrier follows suit?

Motorola Q1 Dismal, But Android Phone In Works

It is said (since I have no experience of this myself) that soap operas provide optimism because the situations are so depressing they make you feel better about yourself. I wonder if that's how the rest of the industry sees Motorola...?

The troubled communications giant (if a shrinking one) has this week reported yet more awful financial results for what seems the millionth quarter in succession. Net losses were a whopping $231m in first quarter a near 20 per cent increase on the $194m it lost in the corresponding quarter last year. That said it is a substantial improvement on the remarkable £3.6bn it lost in Q4 thanks largely to $1.5bn worth of 'cost reduction strategies' (by word for...? Yep, you got it).

Samsung BD-P3600 Blu-ray Player Review

Samsung continues its groundbreaking Blu-ray exploits with the BD-P3600, which accompanies the superb BD-P4600 in the company's latest line-up. Whereas the BD-P4600 was designed with wall mounting in mind, the P3600 sports a conventional set-top box design, and despite its lower model number it comes equipped with a more generous feature list, making it a player that enthusiasts will love.

But that doesn't mean the BD-P3600 is any less attractive than its wall-mountable sibling. In fact, you could argue that it's the best-looking disc spinner the company has ever produced. When we pulled the unit out of the box it was love at first sight - the P3600 is incredibly slim and clad in a deep black finish with grey highlights around its beautifully curved edges. It's a full-on fingerprint magnet but looks like these are worth a squirt of Mr Sheen every now and again.
