Stone Neo 101 Netbook Launched

Stone, the overlord of Rock notebooks post-administration, has announced its own netbook entry: the Neo 101. Unspectacular in its appearance, the Neo 101's only outstanding feature is a three year warranty.

Otherwise specs are eminently predictable; a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive accompanying the Neo 101's 10.1in, 1,024 x 600 pixel screen. Ethernet, Wi-Fi and optional 3G comprise the connectivity options. Two USB ports and an ExpressCard slot round off the input choices.

MSI X58 Pro Review

If there's one thing you'll notice about Intel's latest Core i7 technology and its supporting hardware, it's the price: the processors themselves and the motherboards to fit them into aren't exactly cheap.

MSI's latest motherboard supporting the new technology, the X58 Pro, aims to take some of the pain away by being priced to undercut the opposition by around forty quid, so as to make a system based on the cheapest i7 CPU, the 920, seem almost affordable.

Intel Core i5 chips to start at $196?

Last month we first heard that more affordable Core i7 derivatives were already being sampled and could arrive in their final form as early as July, with matching P55 boards. Due to overstock problems, however, several sites are now reporting that Intel may push back the release all the way until October. This will depend on a number of factors, including what AMD does with its Phenom II CPU, but as we wait for an official announcement from Intel, the folks at HKEPC claim to have obtained a list of the upcoming Core i5 parts with their respective specs and price.

Nikon D90 Review

When Nikon released the D90 DSLR, it promised a huge step towards the future of the mid-range digital photography with the release of a 12.3-megapixel camera that combined high image quality with options that would still appeal to beginners or simply curious creatives, such as live previews and (for the first time in a DSLR) HD video. Electronista takes a look at the D90 and its 18-105mm VR lens kit to see whether the camera succeeds on all fronts.

Xigmatek Cuirassier-N002 Memory Heat Spreaders Review

From what I can remember, the first set of memory heat spreaders were designed for RDRAM (or RIMM) memory modules. For this type of RAM the uses of heat spreaders were twofold. The first reason being, that the RIMM ran hotter than the usual SDRAM, necessitating the use of heat spreaders for heat control. The second reason was that the frequency of the RDRAM coincided with a few household electronic devices, such as cordless phones, which could and would act up in the vicinity of the RDRAM; this lead to its second reasoning, to help eliminate any "noise" that emanated from the RAM itself. Today the usage is more for heat dissipation than any sort of interference and of course heat spreaders look way cooler than stock RAM with no spreaders.
