Samsung S8300 UltraTouch / Tocco Review

Samsung UltraTouch S8300 (known as Samsung Ultra Tocco in U.K), is heading for the shops right about now, so I think it is a good time to give this handset a closer look.

Samsung Ultra Touch has quite an interesting mix within it – 8 megapixel camera, full touchscreen interface and physical T9 keypad.

It is not the first TouchWiz UI equipped Samsung phone – they have already been selling like hotcakes throughout 2008.

Sony Ericsson W902 review

The W902 brings a 5-megapixel camera to the Walkman handset range. In these days of mobiles offering 8 megapixels this might not sound like a big deal, but in fact we reckon 5 megapixels is quite enough for a mobile phone to offer and if you want more then a dedicated digital camera is a better bet than a phone.

The W902 has a neat candybar design measuring 110mm tall, 49mm wide and 11.7mm thick. It weights 99.8g and it is easy to pocket and comfortable to hold.

Samsung YP-Q2 and YP-U5 hands-on

Samsung has rounded out its line of DAPs with the new YP-U5 and YP-Q2, both squarely targeted at what have come to be well-defined DAP categories in recent years. The Q2 (pictured) has a friendly icon-based interface, with familiar touch-sensitive controls below the screen -- though we found ourselves futilely tapping at the large bright icons out of habit. The interface is fast, the screen is great, and the feature set builds on Samsung's typical kitchen sink, now including DNSe 3.0 sound enhancement -- though we'd say the 50 hour battery life steals the show. The U5 looks thoroughly dated, though it's more ergonomically friendly to those athletic types among us than some thumb daps. The teensy black and white OLED screen makes it a bit of a chore to run through the functions, but at least it's there.

Intel Xeon W5580: Nehalem EP Review

Late last year, Intel introduced the Core i7 series of desktop CPUs, based on its Nehalem architecture. Although these new CPUs required a new motherboard, thanks to their support for triple-channel DDR3 memory and use of a new socket, their incredible performance in consumer applications and games means that Core i7 has become one of the must-have items of the last few months. Five months on, Intel has finally launched the workstation/server version of Nehalem, codenamed Nehalem EP.

Unlike the desktop Nehalem CPUs, the workstation/server Nehalem EP CPUs retain the same branding as their predecessors. The new range isn’t called Xeon i7, but merely the Xeon 5500-series.

MSI officially launches the touchscreen Wind Top AE1900

We caught sight of MSI's Wind Top AE1900 back at Cebit, and now it's been officially launched. The nettop boasts a 19-inch 16:9 LCD, an Intel Atom 230 CPU, up to 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. It's also got a DVD burner, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, WiFi, four USB ports, and a 4-in-1 card reader. MSI claims that the AE1900 uses only about "45 watts of power while in full operation," which, if true, would indeed make it one of the more energy efficient PCs on the market. We'll just have to wait and see on that though, as there's no word yet on availability or pricing.

Samsung Instinct S30 Mini

The Samsung Instinct has had a fair outing at Sprint, fair enough that we have even dubbed it an iPhone killer, so it’s probably a good idea for Samsung to refresh the model. The Instinct Mini, also known as the Instinct S30 and the M810, like its big brother, will be a Sprint phone, full touchscreen, user-friendly and all that.

It does look nice enough to deserve a little hype, if the features are all right. We will have to wait for the official specs list, though, but so far so good. We’re not too sure Sprint will be willing to back this one up with $100 million in marketing money like the original. Still, the new smaller design is a winner already.

Samsung's latest LED-packing HDTVs get official prices, availability

Finally, we can stop playing hide and seek with Samsung's 2009 lineup of edge lit LED HDTVs, now that its loosed official pricing and availability details for screens hitting shelves between now and June. They've already been busy popping up everywhere -- around the world, in stores near you, on Best Buy's website, and Samsung's made sure to mention how eco friendly the LED scheme is compared to the old power munching CCFLs and local dimming methods in other manufacturer's screens. The list appears to match up with earlier leaks, so if the 8000, 7000 and 6000 series are screens you've just gotta have, click the read link for all details currently available.

Wibrain M1 MID on show (again)

It’s been a few months since we last heard about the Wibrain M1 MID - then known as the EKING M1 - and now the company is back flaunting the 4.8-inch touchscreen device all over again. Still bearing a full QWERTY keyboard, the oversized-Sidekick uses Intel’s Atom CPU paired with WiFi/HSDPA/Bluetooth connectivity.

Other specs include either 512MB of 1GB of RAM, and 8GB or 16GB of SSD storage. The touchscreen runs at 1024 x 600 resolution and the round pad to the right of it is a circular touchpad. OS is either Linux or Windows XP Home, and - in Korea, at least - the M1 will have an optional TV tuner.
