“Infinity Number Two”: Scythe Mugen 2 Cooler Review

In my humble opinion, the Japanese Scythe Co., Ltd. is the leader among CPU cooling solution manufacturers. We arrived at this conclusion after estimating carefully the potential of Scythe’s main competitors. Take, for instance, Thermalright. Their coolers are of highest efficiency, but they are sold at very high prices. Besides, the evenness of their base plates leaves much to be desired, and the company could use a better developed dealer channel. The well-known Korean Zalman hasn’t offered much lately. They managed to score big in the beginning of this millennium, but have nothing but a known name left at this point. Thermaltake makes good coolers, which, however, come out pretty rarely. Even though we have to admit that the situation has been improving lately. ZEROtherm and the new ThermoLab are very rare guests in this market. Cooler Master seems to be the most dangerous Scythe’s competitor at this point, as this company offers not only cooling solutions with great price-to-efficiency ratio (Hyper TX 2, Hyper 212) but also expensive super-coolers, such as V8 and V10. Moreover, two more new cooling solutions from Cooler Master are coming out shortly. Besides, their coolers are very famous and spread world-wide.

Affordable Home NAS: D-Link DNS-313 Review

We have tested a lot of expensive home NASes but have somehow forgotten about entry-level products from this class. Such devices are demanded by many users, especially with the global economic crisis upon us, due to two main reasons. First of all, not all people are ready to pay $200-300 for a home NAS. And second, many users don’t need the excessive functionality of expensive products but can be quite satisfied with just the basic functions, i.e. creating network folders and running a simple FTP server.
So, this article is going to make our amends to such economical users as we have got an entry-level NAS called D-Link DNS-313. It is in fact a combination of a network attached storage and an external drive with USB interface. We will check out its capabilities and benchmark its performance. Sometimes entry-level devices look just as presentable as top-end models, but it is not the case with the DNS-313. This NAS shows it with its every feature that you must not expect anything exceptional from it.

Hard Disk Drives With 640GB Storage Capacity Review

We have tested hard disk drives with a capacity of 1 terabyte and three quarters of a terabyte (750GB), and now it’s time to move one step lower, to 640GB devices. This capacity may look odd because the manufacturers usually try to arrive at some round and nice-looking number. The explanation is simple: every 640GB hard disk drive is based on two latest-generation platters with a recording density of 320GB per platter. That’s why 1-terabyte drives use a three-platter design. But it should be noted that 1-terabyte drives have 333GB platters.
Dual-platter HDDs have always had an ambiguous standing. They are not remembered as “the world’s first to achieve the capacity of so many gigabytes” but still enjoy well-deserved popularity. It is dual-platter drives that used to have the lowest data storage cost per gigabyte. They have only been outdone recently after the considerable price cut on 1-terabyte models. You can also expect very good performance from them: each of the five HDDs included into this review is based on full-size 320GB platters whereas there can be drives with lower recoding density among 500GB and 750GB models.

Refreshed Acer Aspire One 10-Inch Netbook Spotted

At first glance, this may just seem like the brand new Acer Aspire One 10-inch netbook, but taking a closer look at the ports on the side, you’ll realize that it’s not. We’re still not yet sure if this is a legit image or a fake, but word is that this is a slightly tweaked version of the new 10-inch Aspire One dubbed as the D250. Aside from the new port lay-out, it’s also rumored to come with a new motherboard and a larger HDD. No specifics yet on when it might be released, but we’re still waiting on confirmation if this is indeed real or not before we start counting the days before it hits store shelves.

Superthin Samsung LCD TV Gets GreenTech Approval

At a slight 1.9 inches think, the 46-inch Samsung LN46A850 ($2,599.99 list) is the company’s thinnest HDTV yet. What’s more, the LN46A850’s colors are brilliantly accurate, its video black inky-dark, and its reproduction of standard- and high-definition sources admirably detailed. And the LN46A850 is loaded with useful extras, including support for network streaming of multimedia content. All in all, it’s a tempting–and competitively priced–slim-cabinet television. And did we mention its incredible efficiency?

Radeon HD 4890 X2 A Reality On The Basis Of Performance Against Competitor

AMD is attempting to revive its competitiveness that took a beating with NVIDIA’s introduction of 55 nm G200b-based graphics accelerators. It has been more or less established that the RV790 will be a improvement over the RV770, though not a revolutionary one.
