AMD ‘Bulldozer’ CPU Not Coming Early

According to inside information, AMD will not release its 32nm Bulldozer CPU before late 2010 even though Intel’s rival processor will roll out by Q4 2009. Once AMD kick-started its spin-off company The Foundry Co, established to handle all the manufacturing aspects of the CPU giant, AMD focused on utilizing a plethora of engineering resources. After the spin-off company took root, AMD rewrote its roadmap for the 32nm manufacturing process, pushing up the schedule from 2011 to late 2010. Thus, it seemed likely that AMD would be able to push its next-generation CPU architecture, codenamed Bulldozer earlier than previously predicted to take on Intel’s 32nm-based processor set for a Q4 2009 release.

Onboard Integrated Graphics Gone by 2013

Market research firm John Peddie Research has released a report that indicates the end of the market for the popular integrated graphics processor (IGP) chipset. ZoomIn 2008 67 percent of the graphics chips shipped were IGPs, and JPR predicts that in 2011 it will drop to 20 percent, and by 2013 it will be less than one percent.
IGPs presently exist as an efficient and cost-effective way to ship systems with graphics, even if the capabilities of the hardware are sometimes barely passable. IGPs are, however, usually adequate for 2D functions such as running office applications.

Buy A Samsung Notebook, Get J700 Phone For Free

My skepticism about this ploy doesn’t matter because Samsung India thinks giving out a mid-range phone with every purchase of a laptop will help them spur the notebook sales. The phone that will be offered to the consumers is J700 slider phone valued at Rs. 6,089. I don’t know if we can say it as a flaw but all the buyers will get the same phone, right from the entry level R Series to the super expensive X Series.

Nvidia Says They Want To Build An x86 CPU

During a Q&A session at the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference in San Francisco earlier this week, Nvidia revealed intentions of getting into the x86 business, saying it was a matter of ‘when’, and not ‘if.’
“I think some time down the road it makes sense to take the same level of integration that we’ve done with Tegra,” said Michael Hara, Nvidia’s senior VP of investor relations and communications. “Tegra is by any definition a complete computer on a chip, and the requirements of that market are such that you have to be very low power, very small, but highly efficient. So in that particular state it made a lot of sense to take that approach, and someday it’s going to make sense to take the same approach in the x86 market as well.”

Gigabyte Unveils Core i5 Motherboard

Core i5 isn’t necessarily a new term floating around the Internet, however lately there’s been quite a bit of talk about the “Core i7 lite,” and now there’s a motherboard to support it.
Earlier this week, we reported that P55 motherboards compatible with Intel’s Lynnfield CPUs (aka Core i5) may actually start shipping in July, and sure enough, Gigabyte’s GA-IBP made a grand appearance at CeBIT this afternoon, months ahead of June’s Computex “big reveal” as we originally predicted. In comparison to the meatier Core i7, the Core i5 serves as a cheaper, “lite” alternative for consumers wanting plenty of power but need to pinch pennies.
