HP Touchsmart TX2-1015ea Tablet PC Review

HP’s Touchsmart TX2 is unusual among Tablet PCs in that it’s intended for home use rather than corporate use. You’ll find glossy patterned plastics more in-keeping with the company’s Palivion range than its Compaq machines. The only question is, is there actually a market for touchscreen displays on consumer laptops?
The panel works with both a stylus and fingers, making it easy to navigate the Vista OS. We found it too responsive, however, with the device reacting before we’d even touched the display. As such, it’s impossible to rest a palm on the screen when scribbling away with the stylus, forcing you to adopt a more uncomfortable hovering motion.
Although it’s a bright and sharp screen, image quality is lessened by the touchscreen technology, with a hazy finish that looks almost greasy. It’s at its worst when viewing small text, where we found it uncomfortable to use over longer periods.

Viliv S5 Slams UMID M1 Mbook

We thought the UMID M1 mbook was a pretty cool device but hi-tech Korea doesn’t think so. While Viliv sold all 1,000 units of the S5 in pre-order, UMID’s 500 M1 mbook has some left overs. Now, we have no idea how competitive the UMPC market is in Korea. Kevin Kang of CNET thinks it’ll only get hotter. As impressed as we were of the M1 mbook’s form factor, one cannot deny that Viliv is ahead in manufacturing efficiency and designing well-built devices, though we are not as impressed by its products aesthetically.

Intel Has High Hopes For Its Moorestwon MID Platform

Since Intel launched the Atom platform the netbook market has significantly increased, providing users and PC vendors alike with a new computer category, specifically focused on delivering a rich Internet experience and on-the-go computing. However, the success level of the Atom processor might soon be overtaken by one of Intel’s upcoming products, which is targeted at the growing market for Mobile Internet Devices. This will be an area where Intel’s Moorestown chip will have to compete with some other chip makers, like ARM or VIA. However, the Santa Clara, California-based global leading chip maker is confident that its chip will succeed in surpassing those of its competitors.
In a recent news-article on the Inquirer, Pankaj Kedia, Intel’s Director of the MID program, sat down and detailed his view on the company’s MID platform. “Moorestown will give you the opportunity not only to experience the Internet in its full glory but will also have voice capability” said Kedia. He also added “I call it the ‘Next Smartphone’, the smart smartphone.”

ASUS just unveiled the quad-band P835, a Windows Mobile 6.1-powered smartphone with a 3.5-inch WVGA (800-by-480-pixel) touchscreen and an HSDPA 7.2 data radio. Engadget Mobile reports that the handset comes with Opera Mobile, a trackball that seems oddly redundant with the touchscreen, a 528MHz Qualcomm 7201A processor, and six to seven hours of talk time on a single charge, according to the company.
There’s also a 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus, 4GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), and an A-GPS radio. Interestingly, the phone can double as a WiFi access point to share its cellular data connection with up to ten other wireless devices, according to the report. No word yet on a price, carrier support, or release date, but it’s coming.

Details on pricing and availability will be unveiled for local Vodafone markets as they see fit, but pricing in Spain will be from 99 to 199 Euro, depending on contract.
Initial markets to nab the phone will be UK (due in April), Spain, Germany, France and Italy, with more countries to follow, and the phone will be a timed exclusive with Vodafone.

Leadtek WinFast GTX 260 EXTREME+ In SLI Review

The GTX 260 has quickly become one of those confusing models. We had the card originally launch in June of 2008 and towards the end of last year word came of an updated model that would carry with it 216 shader processors over the original 192 we saw at launch.
Later on we heard more rumors that the card was going to move to 55nm technology; the only problem is that across this whole process the name of the card has never changed. This is no doubt a pain since NVIDIA has also renamed a number of other cards that haven’t had a single change.
Today we’re going to be looking at the Leadtek GTX 260 EXTREME+. While the card doesn’t carry the new 55nm core, it does carry the upgraded shader processors. Before we get stuck into the performance of the card, though, let’s take the time to have a quick look at the package along with a closer look at the card and the clocks it carries. Hopefully the card will warrant the Extreme name tag, so let’s not delay and get stuck into it.

Lenovo - ThinkPad X200 Review

Lenovo’s laptops aren’t exactly designed for those looking for cheap bargains, but if you do decide to shell out for the ThinkPad X200 Tablet PC you’ll get a computer with plenty of interesting features.
This is Lenovo’s first wide screen Tablet PC and its 12.1-inch display manages to deliver 1200 x 800 pixels, which is more than you might expect to get on such a small screen. The display is sharp and bright, its LED backlight helping on both fronts, and its matte finish means you don’t get any of that dreadful reflectivity that makes working with a light source behind you difficult.

ASUS M4A79T Deluxe Motherboard Pictures - AMD Socket AM3 Review

During the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show ASUS launched the brand new M4 Series of motherboards to fully support the AMD next generation AM3 processors. The upcoming Phenom II AM3 processors are able to support up to DDR3 1600MHz memory speed, which means that AMD has finally started to shift away from DDR2 memory. This will be the first memory architecture change that AMD has made since launching the Socket AM2 platform back in 2006, so this is a major change that has been long coming. It will boost performance and lower power consumption, which are two improvements that will be welcomed with open arms.
While we’ve had a number of engineering sample motherboards floating around our test bench in recent weeks the ASUS M4A79T Deluxe motherboard is the first retail motherboard to show up at our door step. The ASUS M4A79T Deluxe motherboard packaging states that it is designed for the new AMD AM3 processor series. It also says that the board uses 100% Japan-made solid capacitors that have a VRM of 57 years at 65C as well as other features like anti-surge protection, Quad CrossFireX, Express Gate and 8+2 phase power design. It is clear that this AMD 790FX chipset powered board is loaded with a ton of interesting features, so let’s open the box and see what it comes with.
