Sharkoon Designs Fans With Modular Cable System

Flexible cable management is now available for fans. At CeBIT Sharkoon will be showcasing a new innovation in fan design: a case fan with modular cable system. The Sharkoon Silent Eagle SE features a 4 pin connector built into the fan’s frame and comes with four different cables for connecting the fan to a mainboard, fan controller or power supply. The fan can be used with a CPU cooler or as a case or hard drive fan. The speed of the fan can be controlled via PWM signal or through three different cables directly connected to the power supply. Users can, according to need, choose the connection type, fan speed, and consequently the loudness and purpose for which the fan is used. Sharkoon offers the Silent Eagle SE in 80mm and 120mm.
Four cables are included with the fan, and include a 4-pin PWM cable that can be controlled by the mainboard and three cables with Molex connectors that limit the voltage to 12, 9 or 7 volts. The 30cm long cables are individually labelled and colour coded for easy reference as well as featuring a robust casing. Sharkoon also offers separately a 60cm cable for users with large cases.

StarTech 4-In-1 USB VGA Docking Station Review

There’s an ever increasing trend that for many the laptop has become the new desktop. Whether that’s because of the affordability of low-end notebooks and popularity of netbooks, or because the more costly laptops can nearly replace a desktop in pure performance terms, many users are no longer relying on a desktop system for their computing needs.
The major advantage this poses is portability, being able to take your computer with you and use it anywhere, though once you are settled in at home or your office this same factor can play against you. Anyone who has used a notebook for an extended period of time knows that a small screen, cramped keyboard and touch pad can be frustrating and really slow you down. To remedy home/office situations like this, StarTech has developed the USB 4-in-1 Docking Station with VGA, a KVM-like device that allows you to connect commonly used peripherals and an external monitor all through a single USB cable.

Microsoft Surface On Sale This June On Board A Lazzara Yacht

You heard right, folks. There’s absolutely no need to wait until 2011 in order to buy yourself a personal Surface. Instead, you can grab one of Microsoft’s multitouch phenomenons this June, but there’s just one tiny catch: it comes attached at the waist with a multi-million dollar yacht. Down at the Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show this month, Lazzara Yachts showcased its soon-to-be-released LMC 76, which — coincidentally enough — comes loaded with a Surface along with software from Infusion Development. The boat (and by extension, the Surface) should be ready to take on the open seas in just a few months, but there’s no indication yet on exactly how many New York banks you’ll have to rob in order to make it happen.

ATI RV740 Performance Figures Leaked

Benchmarks place it comfortably between the HD4830 and HD4850
Despite an uncharacteristically tight-lipped stance from ATI on its first 40nm parts, hardware review website Guru of 3D has managed to secure a sample of an RV740-based graphics card and put it through the paces. At first glance, the specifications suggest that it is little more than a shrunken RV770LE core, but a closer look reveals several improvements
According to the preview published today, the GPU boasts 640 shaders, 32 TMUs, and 16 ROPs; all the same as the RV770LE. However, the core and memory clocks both receive a significant bump, up from 575MHz to 650MHz and 1800MHz GDDR3 to 3200MHz GDDR5 respectively. The substantial boost in memory frequency works to offset the performance difference incurred by the smaller 128-bit memory bus on the RV740, which brings the reported math processing rate for the GPU up to 900 GigaFLOPS.

AMD Demos Six-Core Istanbul Server CPU

AMD recently showed off its upcoming Istanbul six-core server processor that is built using a 45nm process. And while Intel, unsurprisingly, beat AMD to the punch by launching its Dunnington processor back in September of 2008, Istanbul should be the first monolithic six-core processor that will be available for dual- and quad-socket server configurations when it launches in the second half of this year.
The company revealed only a few specifics of the upcoming chip but promised better memory throughput and said the new parts will be thermally and socket compatible with existing AMD servers in the field to allow a seamless upgrade process. Besides the new six-core processor, AMD is planning to launch a new server platform in the later part of 2009 called “Fiorano,” which will use the company’s 45-nm chips along with the latest HyperTransport 3 technology. In the meantime, you can find a video of the Istanbul demonstration after the break and some pictures here.
