GELID Silent Spirit LGA 1366 CPU Cooler Review

GELID solutions is a new face on the market. GELID is a company formed between a former Arctic Cooling founder, Gebhard Scherrer and an investor VC Tran. GELID offers thermal management solutions ranging from fans, thermal materials, and heatsinks. GELID opened its doors for business 7 months ago, and 2 months later it launched its Silent Spirit. GELID states that they wish to produce high-performance and virtually silent heatsinks; the Silent Spirit looks to fulfill the latter goal.

Lenovo W700ds Review

For those of us who live and work on gigantic dual displays, making the transition to a cramped little notebook screen when it’s time to get things done on the road has never been easy. We’re spoiled. But there’s really never been any alternative, unless you wanted to roll up a monitor in bubble pack and stuff it into the bottom of your suit case. That was, of course before the Lenovo W700ds appeared. With a 10.6-inch secondary screen that slides out of its side, it’s the very first dual-display notebook. And with a starting price of $3,069, it has the price of a first-gen machine. But multi-taskers imagining a mobile version of their dual-screen desktop setups shouldn’t hold their breath, since the W700ds comes with more than enough compromises to drag down the allure of that extra screen real estate.

Cooler Master Elite 330 Case RC-330-KKN1-GP Review

Benchmark Reviews has been on the web for over a year now. In that time I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing some very nice higher end computer items, including mid and full tower cases. While I love the high end market I realize for every high end part sold, there are probably 100’s of mid to lower end parts sold. So who’s buying these parts? Everyone is that’s who. So where do they get their pre purchase information from? Hopefully here at Benchmark Reviews. Cooler Master recognizes there is an audience at this price point and so should we. Today Benchmark Reviews will look at the Cooler Master Elite 330 RC-330-KKN1-GP Chassis. A mid tower computer case that appears to be big on features but small on price.

Themaltake SpinQ CPU Cooler Looks Wicked Reviewed

Themaltake has been around for as long as I can remember manufacturing CPU coolers like the Orb series, and cases like the ever so popular Armor line. This time we are looking at their newest offering to the cooling world, the SpinQ. Legit Reviews began posting pictures of the SpinQ back in August when the staff saw it at NVISION 08, so if it looks familiar to you on the site that might be why. Due to its cooling fin arrangement this cooler is one of the more visually interesting coolers I have looked at this year, but more on this in a moment. Let’s take a quick look at the specifications for the SpinQ.

Reviews : Power Supply Units

When Enermax contacted us regarding reviewing a power supply for them, we were pleasantly surprised. With such a prime range of PSUs, it’s difficult to see why Enermax would release yet another series of units. However this was made clearer after doing some research…price. All of Enermax’s units top the £60 bracket, but the Pro 82+ series is aimed more so at the low-mid range and the price reflects this. But by still maintaining price, Enermax boasts that the Pro 82 range provides outstanding efficiency and a quiet fan.

Logitech Cordless Desktop S520 Review

Only a little while ago, Logitech walked away with yet another Recommended Award for its excellent Cordless Desktop Wave Pro mouse and keyboard set. But the sad reality is that not everyone can afford to spend £72 on peripherals. Naturally, Logitech also caters for the budget end of the peripheral market, and one of its latest entries is the S520 Cordless Desktop.

Sony Bravia KDL-55X4500 55in LCD TV Review

For a succinct snapshot of just how extreme Sony’s latest TV range is, you only have to compare the entry-level KDL-37V4000 reviewed a few days ago with today’s KDL-55X4500. For these two LCD TVs exist a whole £3,000 apart - a difference that’s sure as hell going to take some explaining if you’re trying to sell the idea of a 55X4500 to a reluctant other half. Especially as the 37V4000 is actually rather good within the context of its self-imposed limitations.

Pulse Smartpen Review

There were many unfortunate times during my college years where I sat cramped in a small desk, packed in a lecture room with over 100 students, frantically attempting to keep my note taking up to pace with my professor’s lecturing speed. Enter the Livescribe Pulse smartpen, and my life would have been much easier.
Although Livescribe has been running a pretty effective campaign to gain exposure, if this is the first time that you have heard of the Pulse Smartpen, we’ll give you a quick overview. The Pulse smartpen is a pen with a computer inside. As you take notes, the smartpen records all of the audio being played, and then “links” the audio with your written notes. Tapping a word in the notes plays back the audio that was being said when that word was written.

AMD 790GX Motherboard Roundup Review

In our AMD 790GX review we have already found out that motherboards on this chipset have a chance to become a popular foundation for all-purpose computers for a wide range of home users. On the one hand, this chipset offers a state-of-the-art graphics core, which performance is sufficient to run popular games with medium graphics quality, and sterling support for HD Video decoding. On the other hand, these motherboards are an excellent platform for active gamers, which can be used to build a gaming computer with CrossFire that can include even powerful cards (provided you have a powerful PSU — for top dual-GPU cards). Besides, a drop of prices for Phenom this fall added attraction to this platform.

Gigabyte EP45T-Extreme Motherboard Review

Like all leading motherboard manufacturers, Gigabyte rolled out an entire family of models based on the Intel 4x chipsets. It includes interesting motherboards from the new Ultra Durable 3 series (with an additional copper layer in their PCBs) and a top motherboard (DQ6) with a special PCI Express lane switcher to support simultaneous operation of several network controllers and PCI-E graphics slots. We are going to examine a top model from this Extreme series (suffix T in its title indicates DDR3 memory), which main highlight is its power circuits and cooling system.

AMD Phenom II X4 940 & 920: A True Return to Competition Review

The AMD we used to know and love is back. As I write this sentence, most of AMD is still on vacation. By the time you read this, that will have changed, but it’s such a stark contrast to what happened when the original Phenom processor launched. In the months leading up to Phenom, AMD treated it like it would be its hero. “Just wait”, we were told. So we did. And Phenom was the biggest disappointment AMD had ever left us with.

Lian Li Launches New Aluminum PC-A06F Chassis

Lian Li Industrial Co. Ltd has launched the PC-A06F Mid-Tower chassis. The all aluminum mid-tower design features a front mounted 140mm@900RPM fan, with an additional top mounted 120mm@1000RPM extraction fan. The sleek brushed aluminum chassis is only 3.8kg in weight and the dimensions are 187 x 375 x 490 mm ( W, H, D). The traditional layout is slightly restrictive in that only small CPU heatsinks can be used, as the PSU is mounted directly over the CPU mounting region. The chassis is imbued with all the functional and user friendly design aspects users have come to expect in a Lian Li case.
