Nokia Ships 1 Million 5800 XpressMusic, Half in 30 Days

Nokia announced it managed to ship the millionth 5800 XpressMusic handset, an achievement that comes along with the recent launch of the device in the UK market. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, the latest addition to the company’s lineup of XpressMusic handsets, represents the first touchscreen device it released on the mass market.
“The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has been received very positively and this milestone is just further proof that people all over the world want a device that is not only a great music experience, but also makes the most of touch screen technology,” said Jo Harlow, vice president, Nokia.
The handset has been launched back in October, and it has since seen positive results on all markets it has reached. According to the company, the 5800 XpressMusic had successful starts in several areas, including Hong Kong and Moscow where it sold out in the first hours following its launch. As the device launched in UK, many users queued outside the company’s Flagship Store on London’s Regent Street to grab the handset.

Creative Announces Q2 Fy09 Financial Results

Creative Technology Ltd today announced financial results
for the second quarter of its 2009 fiscal year, ended December 31, 2008. All financial results are stated in U.S. dollars.
Revenues for the second quarter were $155.7 million, compared to revenues of $262.5 million for the same quarter last year. Net loss for the second quarter was $32.4 million, with loss per share of $0.44. This compares to net income of $7.6 million with earnings per share of $0.09 for the same period last year.

Intel Denies Seeking To Derail Amd Spinoff

Intel Corporation to agree to make public the patent cross-licensing agreement which the Santa Clara, Calif.-based chip giant is arguing should not cover the soon-to-be created entity called The Foundry
Co.
AMD is creating the new company in a joint venture with the Advanced Technology Investment Co. of Abu Dhabi and the Mubadala Development Co. and as part of the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based giant’s “asset smart” strategy.
But in a Thursday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, AMD disclosed that Intel had sent a letter raising legal questions on the impact of the plan and accused its rival of trying to derail the spinoff.
“We believe that the letter is another attempt by our competitor to cause uncertainty as we approach our Asset Smart deal closing next month,” AMD spokesman Drew Prairie said in an e-mail sent Thursday.
