Capacity
Why, what’s this? An Eee with a 160GB mechanical hard drive? How innovative. Oh wait, no. Pushing the T91 swiftly aside, we’ve got the VAIO P, offering up to 128GB of SSD in the high end models, and a MacBook Air rip off that’s got to have solid state or be doomed to die, even if MSI hasn’t let slip the specs yet. This one goes to the VAIO P for the either/or choice though.

Sony To Replace A700 With Rumored A800?

We’re closing in on PMA 2009, so finalized spec sheets for as-yet-unreleased cameras may be being released into the wild. Expect more rumors over the next month; today, it’s Sony’s A800, the logical successor to the A700, a solid upper-entry-level DSLR with a few polish issues. The list of supposed improvements varies, but from what’s going around I think you can count on:

  • New 15.2-megapixel sensor (up from 12)
  • ISO 100-12800 (who goes that high?)
  • 6.5fps shooting (up from 5)
  • 23-point autofocus (up from… less than that)
  • Built-in wi-fi

Macbook Update Comes To UK, Along With A Price Increase

We reported yesterday that Apple’s plastic MacBook had been given a new set of specs in the US, and now, a day later, they’ve come to the UK… along with a price increase. The new plastic MacBook comes with a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, double the previous standard memory at 2GB and a 120GB hard drive.
The most important addition, however, is an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics chip. It’ll make the laptop more able when it comes to graphics intensive apps, and should also mean it runs the next version of OS X, dubbed Snow Leopard, like a dream.

ASUS EAH4870 Matrix 512MB Video Card Review

When Nathan approached me with an ATI Radeon HD 4870 video card review, I immediately groaned and mumbled “Not another Radeon HD 4870.” After he told me which specific card and a few seconds spent Googling, I immediately perked up considerably. ASUS’ Republic of Gamers line has released some of my favorite components like the 965P Commando and the X48 Rampage Extreme. This is the first ROG branded graphic card I’ve laid my hands on, so I was quite jittery with excitement.

Building An AMD HTPC - Capable Of Blu-Ray HD Audio Playback

It has been quite a while since I last went under the hood of my current Home Theater PC (HTPC), but judging by the gradual degrading performance that I was beginning to see when watching the latest movies, it was pretty clear that an upgrade was in order.
While 720p HD video content plays back relatively well, action-packed and even regular scenes in 1080p HD content struggle quite a lot - the GIGABYTE H971 Home Theater PC, which we reviewed back almost exactly two years ago (here), still impresses us ‘till this day with completely rock solid stability. But when it comes to current day video and audio, it is now sadly dated. Don’t get me wrong, it’s perfectly fine for DVD playback and DVD quality audio, but now with Blu-ray HD audio from Dolby and DTS tracks out and in truck loads on Blu-ray discs, this HTPC has seen its day when it comes to high-end HTPC features.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin Demo Now Available

Just a quick head’s up to the gamers in the audience that WB’s F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin demo is now live for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC owners. The Xbox 360 demo should be live now and the PS3 demo will be up later today (depending on when you read this it might already be up). The game ships on February 10th if you’re willing to wait and not spoil all the fun.
I had a private demo of this game late last year and it was quite fun. Alma is a total freak, though. If you’re interested I’ve included notes I had about the game. It might not make any sense but it’s been so long that I can’t decipher it either.
