Alpha 400 MIPS Netbook Offers Good Value At $169.99

What can you get for $169.99 these days? Well, the Alpha 400 MIPS netbook is certainly a viable candidate despite the rather slow processor that plods along at 400MHz. This is great if you want something extremely light and portable to perform the most basic Internet tasks such as surfing, blogging and checking out your bank balance online, but it certainly ain’t up to snuff when it comes to image processing and games. After all, there is only so much one can do with 128MB RAM, 1GB of flash memory and the Linux operating system, right? Unless the dollar appreciates by a whole lot, that’s about all the value you can squeeze out of its $169.99 price tag, 7″ display and all.

Apple Building The 15-inch Air?

When Apple launched its MacBook Air the industry was thrilled by the idea of a super slim laptop that could fit in a manila envelope. The laptop line is so thin that a reporter accidently tossed his MacBook Air in the trash.
Apple.Pro is reporting that Apple is working on a 15inch Air model; this site is also the same one that broke word of unibody MacBooks. Based on the history of accuracy from Apple.Pro there may be some substance to this rumor de jour.

Metareview — Lord Of The Rings: Conquest (Ps3, 360)

EA got the folks who made the rather excellent Star Wars: Battlefront II to make Lord of the Rings: Battlefront Conquest, so it, too, must be rather excellent? Despite the source material, developer pedigree and the fact that you can play as the bad guys, the reviews — which admonish its “ropey visuals” and “redundant gameplay” — do not smile kindly on this latest video game jaunt through Tolkien’s Middle Earth. Sauron’s eye casts its gaze on the scores and summaries below.

Arctic Cooling Silentium T3 ECO 80 Review

Silence .. I kill you ! Yes yes, probably best phrase of 2008. Who doesn’t know the ventriloquist Jeff Dunham and that wicked creation of his, Achmed. Now, it’s a weird jump to make towards the review today .. then again it isn’t. See I hate noisy PCs, yet also love high end-hardware. And it seems that the past year or two the two could not be combined anymore. A silent PC is a awful hard thing to achieve with these hot components.
There are many chassis out there claiming to be silent, yet the minute it’s fans spin up, your neck hair starts growing inwards back into the skin out of frustration.

Phenom II X4 950 On The Cards

In all past roadmaps, AMD told us that its DDR3-supportive CPU lineup would begin with the Phenom II X4 945. Evidently that is not the case. From a recent DigiTimes report, there was hint given that all’s not well with AMD’s DDR3 plans, with the company toiling hard to get DDR3 memory run smooth and stable on AM3 socket CPUs, with integrated DDR3 memory controllers. The same report also highlighted the larger issue of both AMD and Intel being reluctant in orchestrating an industry-wide transition to the newer DDR3 memory standard across all market-segments.

With many enthusiasts getting into photo editing using CS4 and more people starting to edit HD movie content this subject that will come up more as time goes on. Since I have some matching Corsair 6GB triple channel memory kits I figured why not give it a shot this weekend to see what would happen, if anything, and answer some questions about running 12GB of memory. More than other sectors in the notebook market, ultra-portables are horses for courses choices. Because of their size and weight it’s inevitable that compromises must be made somewhere and even when they aren’t, as with the Sony VAIO TT, the cost could be deemed prohibitive depending on your standpoint.
