Lanparty DK 790GX-M2RS Motherboard Supports AMD Platform

It’s often the case that if amotherboard has the most lucrative features on board, then itwill not perform well when overclocked and conversely, if it overclocks nicely, it doesn’t have the latest offerings in terms of specs and features. So a motherboard boasting great features, excellent overclocking and low price is very rare. The DFI LanParty DK 790GX M2RS is equipped with the latest AMD 790GX chipset with custom cooling options and a robust BIOS to support the AM2+ platform. Madshrimps has done a review of the motherboard to check its performance, feature list and price results.

Lian-Li PC-888 Case Review

During CES 2009 Lian-Li introduced a concept case, PC-888, shaped like a billowing sail – making it to look like the famous Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai –, made of blue anodized aluminum and costing a fortune – according to the manufacturer since this case is a limited handcraft edition, it should reach the market costing more than USD 500. Let’s take a look on this very different case.

Antec P1000 Computer Case Prototype Review

Antec has been the top choice for system builders and hardware enthusiasts for almost a decade now, which is quite surprising when you consider the competition. But the good old days of beige box computer cases with plenty of fans lining the inside are long gone. To achieve market dominance in 2009, you have to manufacturer a product that features everything more would consider desirable. While visiting with Mr. Han Liu, Antec’s product development director present at the 2009 International CES, Benchmark Reviews discussed the Antec P1000 gaming chassis prototype.

Two Firms Announce Competing Fuel Cell Phone Chargers

Long-awaited fuel cell technology is about to reach consumers, and two companies are showing off competing technologies at CES. Medis Technologies is using alkaline technology in its squeeze-to-activate power packs, while Horizon Fuel Cell Tehnology is using compact hydrogen-based cylinders about the size of conventional flashlight batteries.
Medis’ non-flammable borohydride-based technology is similar to that used in alkaline batteries “without producing any polluting emissions,” according to the company. When a fuel cell is depleted, it can be recycled using the included container. The cell ships in a deactivated condition so it can be stored for long periods of time — a squeeze brings it to life.

Cheap Solar-Charging Solio Mono Debuts At CES

We fell in love with Solio and its cheap, easy to use solar rechargers. You too? Well you’ll be excited to hear about the new Solio Mono, the latest device from Better Energy Systems, which just poked its head up at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show.
The device is effectively one third of the Solio Classic, one “leaf” rather than three, and therefore won’t be as effective of a charging device. Perhaps that’s why Solio is also calling it the Solio Emergency Readiness Charge Pack and selling it online (already!) at places like outdoor outfitter REI. After all, it comes on a carabiner so you can keep it out in the sun during a hike.

CES 2009: Fuji Debuts New Green Batteries

There were lots of cool new gadgets on display at tonight’s CES Unveiled event at the Venetian Hotel, but very few had a green focus. Fuji’s new EnviroMax batteries were, of course, the notable exception.
The new disposable batteries boast a number of green features–interesting, considering the fact that the words “green” and “disposable batteries” don’t usually go hand-in-hand.
The new EnviroMax batteries feature no cadmium or mercury. And their packaging has no PVC–it’s also made entirely from recyclable materials. The batteries require no special disposal. The batteries will be available this spring–at, Fuji assures us, a reasonable price.

Rumor: Gh: Metallica To Rock Retail March 29th

If online retail listings or internal retail documentation can be trusted, those awaiting Guitar Hero: Metallica’s release should circle (with a pencil) March 29th as an important date.
Gamestop.com and an internal Gamestop POS sheet obtained by the Destructoid crew have Metallica’s own Guitar Hero edition releasing to all platforms on the last Sunday in March.

Zii: A Supercomputer The Size Of A Postage Stamp

Zii has taken us by surprise for sure. It’s not affiliated with life-science, it’s certainly not a PC audio processor. It’s a multi-core processor the size of a postage stamp, that its makers claim to possess raw computational power to rival that of a supercomputer. Zii stands for “Zen Two” or Z II, it is a combination of the ZMS-05 processor, a system board, middleware and an optimised OS. Soon to be announced at CES, Zii might well turn out to be Creative’s most important product, even more so than SoundBlaster. VR-Zone provided some details ahead of Creative’s announcement.

Amd Looks To Burn Intel With Competitively Priced Dragon Platform

AMD hopes that Dragon platform will heat up sales of its new Phenom II processor
On Thursday, AMD released its new Phenom II processors. As DailyTech predicted the day before, the new processors came in a Phenom II X4 920 and an X4 940 quad core variant. The X4 940, dubbed the “Black Edition”, is clocked at 3.0 GHz, while X4 920 is clocked at 2.8 GHz. Both processors have proved solid overclockers in early testing, falling just short of the Penryn and Nehalem (i7) Intel processors in terms of overclock, based on early testing.
The processors greatest advantage is price. The X4 920 retails at $235, while the X4 940 Black Edition retails at $275. A motherboard for the platform costs around $120 and memory comes at around $75. Together this is much cheaper than Intel’s i7 platform, which has a processor cost of $295 for the i7 920 2.66 GHz model and a cost of $565 at Newegg for the i7 940 2.93 GHz model. It also does not require more expensive DDR3, which the i7 platform does. So while the i7 trumps the Phenom II significantly in performance, this is largely offset by a higher price.

Lucid Hydra Shows A Near Linear Performance Gain

SLI and Crossfire may soon be a thing of the past if Lucid can get their newest technology off the ground and past what I am sure will be a gang of slavering lawyers from AMD and nVidia.
According to Fudo over at Fudzilla Lucid;s new technology is capable of showing an almost linear performance jump from one GPU to two.
This is something that both nVidia and ATi(AMD) have claimed and promised for year but have never really been able to deliver (with the exception of one or two games). Lucid can deliver this in all games and applications.

More Info On Evga’s X58 Sli Classified Emerges

Last week we pointed you to a special X58 motherboard in the works from eVGA which VR-Zone were lucky enough to get a good look at.
eVGA are cramming an immense array of features onto this model (currently referred to as the Classified, until such time as confirmation of the official naming surfaces). But it won’t be a justifiable purchase for most; Tech Connect has just learned that eVGA are putting a premium price tag on this model which raises even higher than the likes of ASUS’ Rampage II Extreme and MSI’s X58 Eclipse+ etc. - somewhere around the $600USD mark.

Asus Preparing Eight New Amd Motherboards Under The M4A, M4N Series

ASUS is reportedly preparing eight new motherboards based on the AM3/AM2+ sockets, ready for AMD’s 45nm desktop CPUs. While two of these have already caught the media’s attention, there are more. Tabled below are the eight motherboards based on the AMD 7-series chipsets, the ASUS M4A series, and NVIDIA nForce 700 series (and 900 series chipsets, if the “980a SLI” reference in the table isn’t a typo), the ASUS M4N series.

Sony VGC-JS1E All-In-One PC Review

One of the things that puts some people off desktop PCs is that they can take up a lot of space and look messy doing it. In this scenario, many will prefer a notebook, but for those who just like that desktop PC feel or want a bit more screen real estate than most notebooks can provide, your best bet is an all-in-one system. The last one we looked at was the HP TouchSmart IQ810, which had a Full HD screen and touch functionality, but came in at close to £1,500, putting it out of reach for many. So today, we’re looking at Sony’s VGC-JS1E, an attractive-looking and more affordable solution.
